i see so the sl55 front engine cover will fit with modification like gluing, but is not a direct bolt-on. the full sl55 intake itself is full bolt-on tho. so you can run the full sl55 intake and airboxes without using the sl55 front intake cover easily, without modifcation?

Or you could use your stock C32 engine cover.

I don't even have my C32 engine cover on there with the SL55 air boxes installed. I don't have any problems without it. Should I expect some? By the way, I have an Escort GT2 timer (similar to GTech) and before putting the intake kit on a few months ago, my best 0-60 was 5.47. Yesterday I did a 5.17 and this weekend I plan to install my ASP pulleys. I hope to get it down below 5.0 before I take it to the track and see what the real numbers are.

I think it's just for the look and probably to protect from water (minor). Need someone with experience to confirm. I personally like the clean look of covered engine.

The cover is primarily for looks. You can leave it off. The stock C32 cover looks out of place and doesn't fit well afterwards. I used duro cement glue and pull the cover on and off all the time without any problems.

thank you for the info 5150_c32. as far as my e36 m3, i didn't have much on, just acs type iii wheels, uuc exhaust, some basic stuff, nothing special. how about you?
Euro HFM, ECIS euro CAI, AA exhaust, 24lb injectors, custom dyno tuned software, LTW suspsension, LTW wheels, UUC sway bars, ECIS Big Brake Kit, RE short shifter, RE tranny bushings, E46 M3 rear shock mounts with Z3 reinforcing ring, euro ellipsoids, euro clear corners and tail lights, E46 M3 rear trunk spoiler. all I can think of right now.

like the other posts stated, you CAN get these parts from the dealer.

you do not need to run the cover, I don't.

it is also very easy to switch back to stock when visiting the dealer, so keep all your stock parts in tact.

Yeah, I'm still trying to take off without spinning the tires at the start. The 5.17 had the smallest tire spin so far. Every other time I try they spin too much so I get 5.2, 5.3. I've never taken it to the track so I've had no practice to get it right. I'd be happy with a 5.03 once I get it right.

Maybe I don't have much tire spin off the line, that's why my time was better.

better tires (I use PS2, not the best but good enough) and spacers(I use 15mm on my rear tire) would help.

I'm still playing with it, but not really too concerned since I don't really race it. I'm sure I'll get better times if I keep at it. I just like to be faster than other cars on the highway!

I use Toyo T1Ss on all 4 wheels, with 255s on the rear. They don't seem to spin nearly as much as the 245 Pirelli's that came stock. No spacers though.

Stock 17" wheels with 255's on the rear--no rubbing. And it's not lowered either.

So, you gained 0.56s from your mods, is it worth?

based on the facts that 1 mile = 5280 feet and 1 hour = 3600 seconds, 0.56 second at 60 mph = 49.28 feet.
Meaning u'd be ahead by 3 car lengths.
Worth it ? I think so.

Not quite. You'd actually be ahead by more if you were still accelerating.

Even so, it's still not even that simple. You have to look at the non-linear acceleration in each gear for both cars. Then, you have to figure in traction issues, driver, etc... This is most certainly not a "simple" equation. However, your numbers probably aren't that far off.

But, still, worth it, yes.
