C32 AMG with SL55 air-intake? 380 ps?

Hi All,

Just bought a 2nd hand C32 AMG but it comes with a performance tune-up by changing the air-intakes with the SL55 air-intakes (what I was told by the salesman, it becomes over 380 ps ?). Also the engine cover was removed to accommodate the SL55 air-intakes (5 photos attached below) .

I have used the car for 2 weeks. Everything was fine and the car got great acceleration performance from 3500-5500 rev which is better than my ex-996 and the E46 M3 I tried b4
except cornering..... but it should be nothing to do with those performance tuning.

Did anyone of you made the same tuning on your C32? any side effects?
or will it worn out other parts of the the car?

The ex-owner also gave me the original C32 air-intake so i want to know if i should fall back to the original

5 photos attached

Thanks

I can't really speak about the mods but ... nice pics of your engine! I really like the looks of the C32 motor. It seems to have less plastic (if any) than my C55. Just little details you notice, even when the hood is closed. Congrats and have fun with it.

Rgds,
Norm

It's a great mod. I've made it as well. The hp increase your salesman stated is probably a bit generous. But that's sales I guess. The only thing you need to be careful with is water. You no longer have the stock intakes which have a plastic baffle like element in the event a large amount of water comes through the grill.

what exactly does this mod consist of, parts wise ??

Are we just talking about the two plastic pipes either side of the engine or are we talking about the boxes too ??.

thx

Thx blando.

I think we should use the other car in heavy rain coz my C32's back-wheels will spin easily in the traffic light starts now in dry (even with the traction control on) so i am thinking to change them from 255/35/18 to 275/30/18
but S-03 don't have this size
any other comment?

also are there any ways to improve its holding in the corners...
i need more solid feel and confidence....

anyway, it is a great mod coz i won a Ferrier 360 within 2 blocks in a traffic light start today

Is there a big difference in gains between doing the full SL55 intake (splitter + airboxes) versus just doing the SL55 splitter?

I believe there is a much bigger gain (relatively speaking) doing the full intakes. The SL55 inlets are larger and unrestricted, the airboxes are larger, and I would assume that you're ramming a lot more air in that way. I would think this mod becomes even more significant when you add pulleys and software.

The tires always spin at 80 to 100km/h when driven hard. There is no way to win Ferrari 360 only from the SL55 air box.
BTW, you have bought a lemon. I know the original owner.... He sold the car because it breaks often. His car has Evosport pulley, SL55 air box and 18" AMG wheels.

Oh Simon,

Do you know why the car breaks? how?
due to those mods?
anyway, i should keep the mods till any breaks really happened again so as to decide if i need to fall back the original air instakes coz so far so good

It seems your C32 also made the similar mods.
Did it breaks? any other things to take care with your experience?

u have the SL55 intake... but that will do 10HP. sayin it has 380HP just when the intake splitter is in there isn't accurate. and... they removed the engine cover because they probably lost it, not because of the intake.

Hi SilvaC32,

thx for your info. but can you tell me if the intake splitter of my car was graded from my photos?
someone told me if i chip the car, i got another 30 ps, is that true?

actually, i found 2 different engines cover in boot. i called the sales he told me the ex-owner ordered another kind of cover to try but also can't fit.
i also saw some photos on the C32 engine with the same mods in this forum and found the gaps with the SL55 air boxes and the engine cover are uneven so i believe it can't fit or can only fit with gaps. is that true? how is yours?

anyway, the look without the cover is fine to me as it looks more muscular
as long as there is no harm to the engine i may leave it uncovered

Search the forums. There are many posts about this mod - including which cover to buy. I used a dremel, fine saw and some glue and was able to make it fit nicely. Thanks to Pierre for great info and pics.

Thumbs down

Not to be especially critical, but you have a pretty poor attitude given that I have repeatedly done for you what everyone else here does themselves.

I hear ya. There's just so much good info here if you just search for it. I guess the rubbed me the wrong way...

I didn't notice too much of a sound change - but I did the work in the winter, so I wasn't able to really open it up or have the windows down. If anything, I did notice the airflow/supercharger sound a bit more, but I did the pulleys at the same time, so that likely contributed as well. I have noticed that my gas mileage has gone down significantly. Averaging about 14mpg down from 17-18mpg.

I'm going to do the chip soon, so you may want to come by after I do that.
