C55 Carbon Fiber Hood?

C55 Carbon Fiber Hood?
Hey guys,
I did some calculations and, assuming I wasn't so tired that I messed up, you only need to drop 2 billion lbs from the front to make the weight balance a "perfect" 50/50. But, that having been said, I think you can get 50 to 60 out of ousting that big metal hood and you can lower the center of gravity of the car significantly by removing that top weight. At the very least it could give stock handling characteristic to a car with a kleemann blower or similar type by removing higher weight than the supercharger adds.
Anyway, anyone know of someone who does professional work, but doesn't want to screw you? I have heard like 5 grand, when you can get one for a M3 for like 800-1200 and a civic for like 200. Obviously there are economies of scale here, but maybe someone would be interested in making a mold and doing a group buy? Just putting ideas out there.
So let me know if you have any ideas or you have any leads.
Thanks,
Rguy

Nothing is for sure yet. But I am sure you realize why the M3 or Honda CF hoods are so cheap........Because there are so many people out there that want it. There will only be a handful of people out there to want a CF C55 hood, so it can never really be as cheap as those.
The problem is, for them to make the mold they need a donor hood, and that hood pretty much gets really f*cked up. So it would not be able to be used again. I can buy a hood and have them do it, but this brings me back to the point that there just wont be enough people out there that want it that would make this feasible.
Unless of course anyone wants to donate there hood to be able to create the mold for the CF hood.....

Why don't we get a group buy together, and that way we can split the mold making fee evenly? If we get enough people, I think that it could be reasonable. If a good report of the difference in handling characteristic was written, I think way more than a handful would go for this idea. The off-putting thing has been the one-off custom pricing. That is why I am hoping for larger run manufacture.

Got some news. This is really not a bad price at all. But if we get 25 confirmed orders for the C55/CLK hood we can probably sell them for about $799.
If some people are interested, then i may make a thread in the CLK and C55 forum for a group buy.

I am most likely in. Does it use hood pins, or original hood latch and hinges? Also, what colors are available. Black....Silver....Both.....?
799 sounds very reasonable, just want to get the final details. Are they guaranteed to fit, you know that there is that compatibility problem with the CLK grills, so there is likely a compatibility problem with the hoods too. Something about how the grill on our c55's are two pieces and the clk's are one piece jobs. Let me know. Thanks for working hard on this. Can you estimate shipping weight and dimensions? Thanks.

It would close the identical way the stock hood does. Hood pins on a benz is a big no. It would use stock shocks, latches etc.... Right now i know we can get black. I am sure i would be able to get silver also.
They would be guaranteed to fit. I personally dont think i want one for my car, but i can always test fit it. I will also check to find out the exact differences with the CLK and C55 hood if any. If not, we can foucus on 25 orders for the C55.
I will try to let you know more info on this in a few days such a weight and demensions and colors etc.. I really didnt know people would be interested. I still think it may be hard to get 25 orders.
