Need some help.....Battery replacement

Hey guys,
I just got my Optima red top battery. I was gonna install it, but when I tried to remove the OEM battery, it just wouldn't budge. Do I have to loosen the bolts connecting the battery tray to the car? I took off the connections to the terminals, and I figured that's all I had to remove to be able to get that thing out, but when I tried to lift it, it wouldn't bugde. Maybe I just need to hit the weight room, lol. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

Arrow hey...

Almost all manufactures have a bolt plate at the bottom of the battery. I still havent had time to inspect my own but im almost positive its down toward the bottom...have fun !

There are clamps that grip the ends of the battery. My recollection is that I used a ratchet with a long extension and a 14? mm socket to loosen them. You will probably not be able to use the same clamps with the Optima unless you are willing to do some pretty extensive customization. I tossed the clamps, and cut a piece of an old Boogie board and wedged it in to keep the Optima from sliding around. Not exactly the most OEM or high-tech solution, but it has worked perfectly for a year.

Yea Jerry aka SilvaC32 also just used a piece of wood I believe to shimmy things in place. I am waiting for mine to arrive, but when it does I will probably be able to assess it better and give u some of my own personal ideas...thinking of a carbon fiber overlaid housing right now hehe but we'll see.

Thanks for the help guys. I got the battery installed. I don't think you'll be able to tell anything from the "seat of the pants," but it's nice to know that you shaved a few pounds taht sit that high up on the car.

BrabusW203, If you can get a CF overlaid housing to fill the gap, that'd be pretty sweet. Do you think we still need the piece that sits atop the battery to vent it since the Optima battery is supposed to be sealed? If not, that CF housing would look pretty bad ***. If you do make one, would you mind dropping me a PM, I think that'd be a nice touch to the engine bay.

When my OEM battery goes out, Optima is what's going in - great product.

Hey Jon,
that lid right above the battery can definitely be removed. I was actually thinking of overlaying CF over that piece too! lol. Making it shorter so it reveals some of the battery top beneath. Sounds like it's going to be a month-long install for a battery haha, but I'll definitely keep u posted about it.
