C32 vs G35 Sedan
I raced a G35 sedan (260hp AUTO with injen intake) from 60-100, started in 3rd gear, and I was only 3 cars ahead by 100. Is this normal? Or is there something seriously wrong with my car? Or he simply wasnt stock?
I am seriously disappointed in my car and I dont know what to do

My guess is that you conducted this entire race in 3rd gear, which explains why you did not pull that hard. A 60 MPH start is probably the worst possible start for a C32. At 50 MPH, you will kick down into 2nd, and will put some serious hurt on most cars. At 80 MPH, you will kick down into 3rd, and ditto. At 60 MPH, you end up in the very bottom of 3rd, and will not get into the meat of the HP until 80 MPH or so. My guess is that you pulled slowly on him from 60-80, and then pulled a little faster from 80-100. Trust me, if you guys had kept up your run until, say, 140 MPH, he would have been a little dust speck in your rearview mirror.
It has also been very warm in So. Cali. . . my C32 sometimes feels like a 6cyl Camry on a hot day

so you guys are saying that it was normal? he was an AUTO though, the result is still acceptable? 3 cars from 60-100?
yea i know 60 wasnt good... if i went to second it would shift right away so i had to go 3rd... but this guy wouldnt go 50....

Having owned and tuned an '04 6 speed G35 Sedan, there are limits to the motor. However, these can be made substantially lighter than the G35 coupe and can gain an astronomical amount of power on a naturally aspirated motor with just intake and exhaust mods. Putting on a 3 " Z intake tube adds 7 HP. Taking off the Sedan 50 lb resonator and replacing it with a Coupe midpipe will give you a combined total of 20 HP. Gutting the cats or running testpipe will put the motor equal 290 crank HP. Add racing crank pulley and they car is maximized. Nissan's adaptive and learning ECM really compensates well to added airflow capabilities.
That being said, the car reaches its max potential short of forced induction mods at a distinct disadvantage to the C32. You beat him soundly and would've done more so had you used your tranny better to your advantage. Hold the stick in full left position when you floor it and the AMG TCM will select the gear with the best torque to apply next time on the roll.

Just curious. Does "Cabby" mean that you drive a cab for a living?
If so, you calling someone else "stupid" is the pinnacle of irony.

This is my first post since purchasing my c32 amg. Bought from a doctor here in So. Cal.
2002 27k miles, $33k. I love this car. This is my first MB.
I have also a 2003 G35 sedan AUTO, and Nissan Armanda. I just recently got rid of my Acura-CL Type S.
in response to your race with the G35.
I can tell you that the 4th gear on the G35 is strong and lots of pull. It would be hard to tell if you were more than 3 car lenghs, my feeling you were ahead even more, just didn't realize it.
I raced a G35 coupe 6 spd from 60 to 120, and left him about 5 car lenghs and pulling.
we slowed down and he said " you car is quick" I said thanks and I drove off
(60 fwy and Euclid Exit, here in Ontario Cali)
I have driven my G35 to the max and I can tell you that i won't keep up. Even with intake and exhaust, the engine just doesn't have the upper breathing to pull.
My Acura CL-S in the other hand, was really heavy and Automatic, FWD sucked too, but that engine loved to be at 6000 rmps plus to its 7200 redline. Sweat engine. With headers and intake it would crank 290 easy. Too bad Acura can't build one decent Sports Sedan with RWD.
just my though... and I will continue to post.

A friend of mine, who has an 03' G35 (auto) told me that he recently raced his brother, who has a late model V6 Honda Accord (also auto). Anyways they raced from a stop light till about 70mph and they were dead even the entire race. Apparently those 240hp Accords can move..... By the way both cars were stock...

The VQ35 with a six speed and no VDC is a beautiful think. My ex-'03 350Z Enthusiast with above mentioned mods and Nismo G-attack suspension outperformed my ex-'01 Carrera 3.4 Cab easy. However, my ex-'02 Carrera Coupe with hybrid X74 and 3.6 would slaughter it. The new twin turbo Infiniti GTR is going to impress many.
