Who uses RACE FUEL on their track runs?
I'm just curious as to whether some have found any benefits to using race fuel at the track.I'm sure the guys with the C32's have since they are F/I but I want to know if this has been the case as far as an improvement in performance.Especially on the N/A motors.

I usually run 1/2 mix of 101 octane, to give me a total octane of 96. If you can't find 101, then a 15% mix of toluene (available at Sherwin-Williams or any other paint supply store) will work wonders. I tried both once (101 and toluene), and my times/speeds went down, probably because the octane was too high.

I ran at the drags using 100 octane unleaded....whole freakin' tankfull of it at $5/gallon (this was a year ago!)....probably over $6/gallon now.
Bottom line result: No improvement whatsoever.

Adding Octane to a NA motor and not changing the tune will do nothing but waste money. Our cars have plenty of octane on pump gas unless you raise the timing to lean the car out were it will need more octane hece the reason you have the car chipped for your local pump gas mine is set for 93.
Forced induction is the best place to see race gas or very high compression NA motors built for the track. In FI cars only if you raise boost to accommodate the new octane. I run VP import in my race car motor octane rating of 123 formulated for turbo and NOS application $32 a gallon I run 38-40 psi and 120hp wet shot on 8.5-1 compression.
I agree adding very high octane will most likely rob some power.
It is also somewhat a myth that leaded fuel will cause damage. It will over time and its not good for the cats (who needs those) but I ran straight C16 115 octane leaded fuel in my street supra for a year with the same wideban 02 no problems. Although I would not recommend prolong use the avrage guy thats only running it from time to time wont see an issue.
So to sum up don't waste your money on race gas for the C55 or the C32 with low boost pullies. What I would like to see for the AMG is a two stage ECU chip, we use them on a lot of other cars were you can toggle back and forth between a street tune for daily pump gas driving and an aggressive timing leaner race tune set for 100 octane.
