CEL on and found out that the sec. air pump is dead, after 3 years of driving.

Just wonder if I don't replace it(since my car is just out of warranty), will it cause damage to the car?

It is a common problem with many MB models. Do a search, we have talked about it many times.

It is an emission part and the warranty on it, if I am not mistaken, is 8 years 80,000 miles. Look in your service booklet.

no way! 8 years Now I'm pissed I just replaced mine last month paid $375 for it.

 

try to get reimbursed for it by a dealer.

mine went down a week ago.. 2nd one since I got the C32.. but still the only probs I ever had.

 

Wont cause any real harm to the car. It will just produce a little more emissions while cold which is why the EPA doesnt like it failing and will not pass emissions test. A lot of cars dont even come with one though so its not like it will hurt your car without it working.

BTW, make sure you replace the air pump relay if you do replace the pump. A bad relay can cause the pump to overrun and burn up.
