installed Renntech stage II

OK, had the Renntech ECU & pulley set installed by DynoComp on friday. WOW great acceleration all across the board. I will be trying to hit the track next weeks friday since there should be cooler weather here at that time. Didnt have time to have it dynoed but will try some time soon to see what the rwhp is at.

Thats awesome. How big of a difference is there in acceleration? I'm very jealous. What made you choose RENNtech over other pully/ECU mods?

Yes.. Please post your costs if you don't mind. I was quoted $3395 a similiar Kleeman setup. They said installation would take about 2 hours at $90 an hour.

Thanks

I think I paid $3650 OTD with install and everything. I did receive a slight discount since I didnt get the filters (already had greenfilters).

The acceleration is great. Once it hits about 2500-2700 revs it just rips ... I havent taken it out in "cooler" weather yet (again when I was driving it was about 90 degrees outside and there is a huge difference when its cooler) but I can definately feel the difference as it was. I will let you know if I think it is worth it once I can take it out when the weather is the low 80'-70's, at that point I will know if I am satisfied. Plus I think the ECU needs some time to "learn" the new programming...I cant wait to take it too the track, I am hoping high 12's, any thoughts if this is possible?

I chose Renntech based on feedback I have read (on forums) and I think that Renntech has a great product. The one thing I feel very strongly about is in regards to the pulley, in that other products dont have the harmonic balancer. I dont care what people post but I think you should really keep it. Plus the local MB dealer recomends them (renntech) and if there is a problem I wont have my warranty voided .

Sorry for the rookie question, but what is a harmonic balancer?

The harmonic balancer, or vibration damper, is a device connected to the crankshaft to lessen the torsional vibration.

a harmonic balancer is a part which is meant to dampen the vibrations on a crankshaft, which is important because the overdrive pulleys are driven by the crankshaft. because the process is from reciprocating motion (pistions) to rotating motion (crankshaft), as enabled by the con rods, the torque applied to the crankshaft is tangential. thus there is a certain frequency of tangential vibration that must be considered. in addition, the rotating motion of the crankshaft itself has a certain vibrational frequency. if you consider these frequencies on a sin-graph, at some points the nodes of the two frequencies will cause superposition, an occurrence where the two frequencies will be amplified. frequencies and superposition is part of the study of harmonics. thus the harmonic balancer dampens the (harmonic) vibrational forces upon the crankshaft. there was an awesome thread on here a few months ago about pulley systems and harmonic dampers, which was great reading.

edit: vader13 beat me to it.

Hmmm... Looks like I need to do some more research. I need to research Kleeman's pulley before I drop that type of coin.

fyi, kleemann's kit does include a harmonic damper.

Very interesting. Do you know if their product is a modified stock pulley or a completely new design?

sorry, i do not know. by modified stock pulley, you mean stock pulley + weld on outer ring to increase diameter, as some other companies do to make a "solid pulley"? i would be interested in this as well.

it is a whole new pulley system. I think they had a few pulleys in the kit, not just for the superchrger, I saw a few out on the table. I did take a look at the Kleeman kit (I even met with the owner of the Kleeman shop here in Phx), but I decided to go with the Renntech based on being able to keep my warranty with this Merc dealership. They have the Renntech brouchers and recomend you use DynoComp to have it installed. I have used Dynocomp before (my WRX) and they outstanding work. There are a few members here that use them for there vehicles on this forum (I think a few SL55 owners), Dynocomp isnt cheap but they do an awesome job. That was the reason I went with Renntech over Kleeman...
