2003 C32 with 6-spd auto?

I just heard from another forum that the 2003 C32 will come with a 6-spd auto? The shifter will be mounted on the steering wheel like the SL55. With an extra gear, we can expected acceleration to drop a little. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks,
Baron

07 SL550; C32 (sold)
that post stated he wasnt' sure if the shifter was mounted on the steering wheel. i highly doubt it.

are they actually offering the 6-speed auto instead of the current 5-speed auto??? i never heard of this change. I really doubt this is true. probably the dealer didn't know what he/she was talking about

C32 AMG
I read on another post that all C-class models will have the 6-speed manual available, with the exception of the C32. Maybe this person's dealer was confused. I read their thread and the person is very excited about it. Someone should tell him to calm down so he isn't disappointed. Somehow I doubt a 6-speed auto...if it does come, I will feel jipped.

Maybe the manual

I am only interested if it is the 6-speed manual mounted right where it belongs, on the column. Like in the good old days.

MB
i don't think so, unlike the 6-speed auto gear box used by BMW, Jaguar, VW and Audi which is developed by ZF with pretty much the same archetecture but different gear ratio, the auto gear box used on Mercedes-Benz cars are by Mercedes-Benz themselves, and from what i've heard the MB 6-speed auto is still in development and it's schedule to be introduce at around mid 2004. which explains why McLaren is using a 5-speed instead of a 6-speed auto on Vision SLR, as well as the gear box used on the Maybach.

All of the above
The '03 C class brochure that just came out shows no change in the trans. for the C32. Still 5 speed auto modified by AMG.
I don't expect any change for the C32, it has only been out for a year. Yes, all other C class cars (including 240 and 320 wagons) will come standard with 6 speed manual. If you get 4matic, now available on all Cs except coupes and C32, you must also get the auto trans.

P.S. see '03 price list and option pricing for C class on my post in the regular "C" board.
