Overdrive Pulley Kit R&D Results
7’’ (13% larger) Crankshaft Pulley
Smaller Water Pump Pulley (to clearance crankshaft pulley)
13% Larger Alternator Pulley
Smaller Upper Tensioner pulley (allows usage of factory belt)
New MB Belt
12 1-step colder plugs
Everything is on with exception of the plugs. The pulleys are made from T6061 billet aluminum and weigh 3 lbs. vs 8.9 lbs. stock. I will have a picture posted shortly. Production pieces will be hard, black anodized for durability and stealth factor.
OK – driving impressions. The car feels noticeably stronger. Traction control flickers at ¾ throttle in first two gears, but than my rear Michelins are gone. On the freeway, the car simply surges forward from any movement of your right toes. Pushing pedal to the floor brings 3rd gear, that is gone a second later and strong pull in the 4th until you realize you are at 130 and traffic ahead does not appreciate being ambushed at those speeds. In town I found myself leaving the car in D and just driving. To keep the same progress it is now takes less throttle. You can now hear Kompressor a bit more with radio off.
Hard DATA: I was impatient to put the car on the dyno after only driving it around the block to make sure everything is OK. 303HP and 294 ft.lbs. TQ – 20HP and 27 ft,lbs. gain over stock numbers. In some spots TQ gains are over 30 ft.lbs. A/F ratio remained at 12.5:1 like stock. I will post more graphs and pixs within next couple of days.
Operating parameters: Boost increase
1st gear 10 lbs. to 11.5 lbs.,
2nd gear 11.5 lbs. to 13.5 lbs.,
3rd gear 12.5 lbs. to 15.5 lbs.
4th gear 13 lbs. to 17 lbs.
Air Charge Temperature (ACT) at max boost is up from 130F to 154F. Around town cruising without using boost too much – from 90F to 110F, brisk driving with more than half throttle 110F to 125F. Ambient around 70-75F degrees.
Doing two WOT runs back to back on the dyno resulted in ACT going as high as 194F and computer pulling timing down to 3 degrees vs. 12 degrees before. Power down 35HP.
Clearly, the intercooler needs upgrading. At first I would like to add capacity to the intercooler cooling circuit. At this time I am evaluating several options. Secondly improving airflow across intercooler core. I had a conversation with Kleemann and they are planning on coming out with new, more efficient intercooler design that utilizes the same core as in their SC kits. More info here – www.laminova.com. Thirdly, improving intercooler radiator. I will be doing more testing within next several weeks and I will post the results.
ODPK will go in production by the end of August. I do not have final pricing at this time, but it will be significantly lower than the other kit.
Thank you for listening.
I will have this kit on couple more cars for some time, before releasing it.
a member in the c32life forum posted this thought on the pulley upgrade:
"With that a/f running at 12.5/1 and 17LBS of boost seems pretty risky. I've blown up a few engines running much richer albeit much higher boost. Have you guys checked the EGT's?"
any comments on this and whether this is valid or not?
We are working on upgrading intercooler cooling ciruit as part of Stage I Power Package.
As I get more data during this upcoming week I will post some graphs and dyno charts.
How do you think these upgrades should hold up in extreme temperatures? I don't know very much about technical details, but want to make sure I won't have too many problems in Chicago weather.
