oil change for 05 c55

Can somone help me w/ changing my oil in 05 c55? I'm confused is the RED cap in the back of the motor left side if in front of motor the oil tube? If it is that answers my question and I will extract from there. But if as all say you only get 7.5qt from there how do you get the remaining 1.5qt if you can't get it from oil filter housing.... can someone please help me it would be much appreciate

Hello Cap-

Yes - the red cap is the oil tube. Get a dipstick (see my other post for the part number) and the correct fill is to 160mm on the stick. 9qts should get you right to that reading.

You can't get the remaining approx. 1.5qts out. Best way for C55s is to drain the oil. Remove the underpan - drain oil from BOTH drain plugs. Remove filter assembly and replace filter with FLEECE filter only. MB OEM and Bosch 72204 are both the OEM Mann fleece filter. Also replace all o-rings and coat with motor oil before re-fitting the assembly.

Take your time - it's pretty straight forward.

Where can you buy the o-rings, filter and dipstick? Are they available online? Thanks.

Besides the dealer, Bosch part number 72204 will provide the OEM fleece filter element, and all orings. The dipstick I purchased was from Baum tools.

sorry to jump the thread ...

I'm having tough time finding the "European Spec" Mobil1 Supersyn (for 2005+ AMG engines) ... even the dealer does not have it in quarts ... where are you getting your oil?
TIA, Peter

Since I'm at it ... ever do the tranny fluid?

Mobil 1 dropped the 'European Spec' wording from the bottle, but the container will state that it meets MB spec 229.5.

HOWEVER, MB changed their spec to MB229.51; Mobil 1 ESP Formula M; 5W-40.

This oil was suppose to become available May 15, 2006.

I would use a oil extractor pump and just pump out the oil. its how the dealer changes oil in our cars and its very easy to do.

Thanks kjb55!

it'z zee MB229.51 ... not zee MB229.5 spec!

I'm assuming the +.01 version (Mobil1-ESP Formula M ), you're referring to, is specifically for the 2005+ AMG motors ... ?

I'm wondering what the difference is ... probably an additive package.

The bulletin put out by MB listed models 171, 203, 209, 211, 215, 219, 220, 221 and 230. It was a mix of AMG and non-AMG models.

MB gave no explanation as to the difference in formula, but I'm with you that in addition to the 0W going to 5W (very minor cold weather weight rating), that it's most likely an additive package.
