Brake Wear Visit Workshop

I just got a message in my car just now

said "Brake Wear Visit Workshop"
I got 17800 miles on the car..

does it mean i need new brake pads?

does anyone know what to do to replacing pads in terms of resetting the brake pad sensor?

feedback appreciated! =D

it means u need new pads.
i do my own brakes, its very easy.
take wheel off
knock out the metal bars that hold the pads (be careful not to hit the caliper, use a thin metal bar)
disconect sensor
stick screw driver between pad and rotor from the top, slowly separate pad from rotor. while holding the 1st pad in place off the rotor (not w/ ur fingers, use something to jam it in place) separate the second pad from rotor.
pull pads out.
apply brake squal repelant thingy to new pads and put them inside the caliper
allign the holes and knock the metal bars back in (make sure that they are in all the way)
put new sensor in.

there u go, i just saved u some$ :p

you need a new set of pads and the brake sensors are designed to be replaced not reset. basically, the sensor is designed so that when the metal wire in the sensor comes into contact with the rotor face, the brake wear circuit is then completed. thus, the system trips the light or (as in your case) shows a message on the info display. pretty much the same old tech they have used since they introduced the wear indicator on the w116 S-Class (think 1970s).

to my knowledge, MB was the first manufacturer to have a brake pad wear warning system...

Brake Lining Wear Visit Workshop

I have the same problem. I replaced all brake pads (2001 C-240, 60K miles, Pagid OEM pads front and rear) and the sensors (2 front, manuf unknown). I still get the warning with every startup. Before pad replacement, I could not make that warning stay away. Now I can, but it still returns with every startup. I know there's some indication on this forum that the fix for this may be in the manual, but I looked and didn't find a thing. My bad if it's there and I missed it! My first post ever, and I'm hoping you can help.

Kenmahi: I also live in Leawood. I use Cobalt Racing Spec VR pads on my C55 on the track. The right front is the only wheel with a sensor, and these pads do not accomodate a sensor. Everytime I start the car the brake sensor warning comes on. I just a button on the steering wheel and it goes off. You need to join the Kansas City Mercedes-Benz Club.

So I Just got the brake wear visit workshop warning light the other day..

Problem is I'm too busy until mid Jan to visit my workshop.. is there a secondary warning of some sorts or will I be fine for a few weeks and drive carefully?

You should have several thousand miles until it gets into the backing plates, so yeah, if you take it easy on them they should be OK.

I've got the same problem

2005 e320 with new pads (approx 1,000 miles on them):
Just bought the car.
Warning was not on before I did the following:
I had a brake squeal when nearing a stop (stop sign etc..)
I removed the left and right calipers and pads.
Only Right side inner pad had a sensor.
I lightly sanded the pads to remove glaze.
Carefully replaced all pads and calipers.
When started car, immediately got "Brake Wear, Visit Workshop" warning.
Should I just replace the sensor? Are they made to not be re-used after they've been activated? This is my first Merecedes so I hope this is not an expensive lesson.. Please advise. Thank you.

You have, most likely, just damaged the sensor in some way. Just buy a new one. They run about $6 from the dealer or any other parts source.

I DON'T COME HERE ANYMORE
The sensor plug in is also touchy-it may have pulled out of the contact point and is not working prop-its a copper coil wire that slides in (not as easy as it sounds-can be a PITA)-iirc-I had sensors on all 4 corners....

ScottW911 & rockjock:
Thanks very much. In the event that can't fix it with just the connector plug, I went to Mercedes and bought all 3 sensors. Since I found the squeal was actually in the front, not the rear, I am going to do the same thing which is lightly sanding the front pads to remove the glaze.
From what I was told my car (2005 e320) has one in the right rear, the exact same one in the left front, and one "half way sensor" in the right front. The "half way sensor" is gray in color as opposed to black with the other two.
This site is great and I look forward to learning a lot more from you guys.
Thanks for your help.
