Brake Wear Visit Workshop
said "Brake Wear Visit Workshop"
I got 17800 miles on the car..
does it mean i need new brake pads?
does anyone know what to do to replacing pads in terms of resetting the brake pad sensor?
feedback appreciated! =D
i do my own brakes, its very easy.
take wheel off
knock out the metal bars that hold the pads (be careful not to hit the caliper, use a thin metal bar)
disconect sensor
stick screw driver between pad and rotor from the top, slowly separate pad from rotor. while holding the 1st pad in place off the rotor (not w/ ur fingers, use something to jam it in place) separate the second pad from rotor.
pull pads out.
apply brake squal repelant thingy to new pads and put them inside the caliper
allign the holes and knock the metal bars back in (make sure that they are in all the way)
put new sensor in.
there u go, i just saved u some$ :p
to my knowledge, MB was the first manufacturer to have a brake pad wear warning system...
Im gonna buy Porterfield RS pads from Jerry (formymercedes.com)
they run for 179 for the fronts..
they dont come with sensors..so Im not sure if I can do much..
do I need to refill my brake fluid as well when changing pads?
How much are a set of front pads and can anyone recommend a good supplier?
Thanks
i paid about £170 fitted ... this was from local MB dealership

Problem is I'm too busy until mid Jan to visit my workshop.. is there a secondary warning of some sorts or will I be fine for a few weeks and drive carefully?
Just bought the car.
Warning was not on before I did the following:
I had a brake squeal when nearing a stop (stop sign etc..)
I removed the left and right calipers and pads.
Only Right side inner pad had a sensor.
I lightly sanded the pads to remove glaze.
Carefully replaced all pads and calipers.
When started car, immediately got "Brake Wear, Visit Workshop" warning.
Should I just replace the sensor? Are they made to not be re-used after they've been activated? This is my first Merecedes so I hope this is not an expensive lesson.. Please advise. Thank you.

Thanks very much. In the event that can't fix it with just the connector plug, I went to Mercedes and bought all 3 sensors. Since I found the squeal was actually in the front, not the rear, I am going to do the same thing which is lightly sanding the front pads to remove the glaze.
From what I was told my car (2005 e320) has one in the right rear, the exact same one in the left front, and one "half way sensor" in the right front. The "half way sensor" is gray in color as opposed to black with the other two.
This site is great and I look forward to learning a lot more from you guys.
Thanks for your help.
