BMW announces supercharged V8 for 7-series
I just spoke to my friend who also happens to be a BMW master tech and he told me there was a bulletin sent out stating BMW will be releasing the supercharged N62 motor for the 7-series. It will put the 7-series in competition with the AMG S-class with a 0-60 time of 4.8 seconds. Funny how MB is going away from FI and BMW is now stepping into that realm. ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
EDIT: I originally said M62 but my ears failed me. It will be an N62.

wow never heard of this. i don't think bmw would actually go to supercharging. and the m62 is an outdated v8 platform for bmw, no? m62 was in the e39 540i and stuff, the 550i, 650i, and 750i's have a new motor, no?

News to me as well. He just called me out of the blue to ask me specs on the S55/S65 and said the techs just received the memo. I wonder what other motors that supercharger will fit on.

just posted this link on the Turbo 3.0 BMW engine thread....
check out this coupe 335i
i think we have a winner for BMW...
the only thing we need to confim is: Are they bring the Turbo Engine to the US?
The article indicates that they may bring a N/A engine instead. Probably a 3.5L to compete against the IS and G.
However I rather have less hp/and torque but Turbos, then bigger engine more hp/tq on a N/A engine.. cuz we all know that Bi-Turbo set up is ideal.

i believe maybe your bmw guy was talking about the Alpina B7 coming to america!!
http://www.worldcarfans.com/news.cfm...ing-to-america
centrifugally supercharged (ASA) blower on 4.4l v8, 500hp and 516lb.ft. i would definitely get this over s55 if i had the money. the fact that it's an Alpina and the amount of individualization alone is more important to me than performance figures. you can select the wood trims, the color of the piping and stitching, types of leather / alcantara, etc. my friend had an Alpina V8 Roadster (Z8) and it was immaculate. 200 lucky people will get the Alpina B7, i wish i was one of them haha.

next 12 months... we are going to have many choices to upgrade from a C32.
Hopefully MB can step up to the plate.
Lets review: under $60k +/-
IS with probably a V8 borrowed from the GS/LS
New G3x. (probably 3.6) 320hp+
New 335 (hopefully turbo)
New M3/4 V8
New RS4 (is out but expensive)
New C55 or C63
new Clk63 (expensive)
and why not these:
650i (expensive)
550i (SMG + v8)
E550 (nice power and 7sp)
CLK550 (same as above)
or
used 04 E55 (my current choice)

i think you are right, I heard this from Autoweek or another magazine source.
ALPINA is nice! I'm not sure about the price though... they tend to be more expensive than the M products.

Sorry KompressorKev, I heard wrong on the phone. It is not an M62 but will be an N62. Duh on my part.
I'm guessing the info is still new so there's not much to know yet. I cannot confirm or deny that the Alpina car was what he was referring to. He did however tell me about the 335i release over a year ago before I got my C55 so I hope this is true as well.
