A 2000 Acura TL keeps up?????

was in the C32 getting on the freeway today and there was a 2000 Acura TL behind me, I noticed he tried to pass me so I hit it and left him behind by about 4-5 cars, but he keeps up for about 5 miles, never passes me but that is pretty fast for a TL isn't it??? eventually had to exit and he just flys by, How fast are those things? 260 hp for a type S, should it have kept up like that? Tommy........

I don't think so not a 2k but then again i don't know for sure.! But those cars do run pretty well upstairs. My dad had a 2k3 TL type S different than the reg 2k TL and it had nice TQ to boot I'd say.Pretty impressive ran pretty good off the line for an automatic.

0-60 times, horsepower, torque curve, etc. of TL do not measure up to C32 so would be surprised if they could truly keep up. Assume that he was giving it every last ounce of pedal mashing and you were taking it easy!

Test drove a new '05 TL before buying a used C32. Even with its new "enthusiast focus," (they're all effectively Type S now, with about 270hp and 240 ft.lbs., manual available, etc.), the TL didn't hustle nearly as fast as the C32.

so by reading this you had it floored for 5 miles which I have a feeling you would reach the speed gov (155mph) within the first mile or so... Isnt that kinda dangerous?? I guess I'm not getting something here

a quarter mile at a time
1999-2003 TL Type-S had 260hp under the old SAE ratings. The 2004 TL had 270hp under the old SAE ratings. The 2005+ are now rated at 258hp under the new SAE ratings. None of them are in the same league as a C32.

I never really floored it, I just sped up enough to get the jump on him for abour 5 car lengths, I was then surprised to see him still coming at me, I was coasting at around 100 in moderate traffic, still kinda dangerous, maybe to some, but I felt like I was in total control, although the acura was never close to me he was still within rear view mirror range, just though that was quite impressive...

OK, well if you never really floored it then you werent "making the full potential" of your avaiable 350hp, so lets say you were 75% throttle, that means you were only using about ~262hp, right around what he was making, now that is why he kept up with you...

OMG, I just had the same thing happen with a Toyota Prius! I accelerated to 100, and so did he. So, a Prius is just as fast as a C32

The bottom line is that, if your definition of a race is accelerating to a certain speed which almost any car on the market can attain, and then weaving through traffic, you are going to find that just about any car can keep up with your C32.

For clarification...

The TL didn't get 260hp until 2002 w/ the Type S model. The 2000 model has 225hp with no Type S available. The easiest way to tell is by the wheels.

i used to own a 2001 CL type S...

up to 3rd gear they have good power...

3rd ends at about 110... therefore I would drive in 3rd all the time..

when 4th hits... ITS OVER for the Acura. The 4th and 5th gear are cruise gears.

Adding a simple intake headers will yield 30hp, around 290 at the crank.

Adding the blower will add another 75hp...

If you were not WOT and he was WOT, if you stay under 100 he would be able to keep 4 to 5 cars behind.

sounds about right... for a 260hp car.

If it was the regular 225hp version, it must of had atleast headers and intake atleast.

next time slow down... have him catch up and go at it again. you will see the difference in torque and gearing.

Exactly. Thing is, you don't really know too much about that car since didn't get a chance to check it out; it was just some playing around on the highway. I would understand if it was a CRX keeping up with your AMG, but this is a car with some decent power that was probably modified.
