Ok I'm torn between the slkamg and the C32 amg - i guess it comes down to backseats or not. I don't know - what are your opinions on the two cars?

Apples and Oranges; Both are great cars. You need to figure out your passenger load requirements before we can enthusiastically dole out useless advice.

but i need useless advice

how do the cars compare though like the c32 is 4.9 0-60 and the slk is 4.8 - when we get down to a 10th of a second - do you really notice any power difference at all? handling wise? I love the hard top vert aspect i have to admit.

no real big performance differences, SLK32 is a chick magnet though. C32 is more of a sleeper.

Both

I own a C32 and performed some data gathering on a SLK32. I think it safe to say the handling is similar, but the SLK is slightly more tossable and the C32 is a bit more composed feeling. Further I think under same conditions the SLK is more like .3 sec faster 0-60 (and in the qtr too).

Both will dominate the highway, and you will find that nothing will ever embarass you in a stoplight gran prix. 32 motor is one of the best ever assembled, docile enough for city driving and phenominal when you want some power. Last Sunday on a two lane highway, I was behind a fleet of maybe 15 cars running 55, I found myself at the head of the pack after 4 passes in the matter of just a few minutes. Not many cars could have handled that situation so well. You will never feel frustrated about passing other cars again. The power from cruising speed to triple digits is probably unlike anything you have experienced.

If you want a tan get the SLK, if you want to carry 3 or 4 get the C32. You will find sufficient power in either.

Agree, although I read somewhere that the C32 suspension is lightyears ahead of the SLK32 because of the rack-and-pinion design. Not sure, that's just what I read.

I read some where that the SLK32 somewhat outdated compare to the C32 (chassis & suspension)

Porsche Turbo Stage 4, Cayenne S ... gone C43, C32, ML55 & Ducati 999.
Lightbulb

Well, I may look it form other point of view.

The SLK will change in 1 to 1.5 years and the C-class 2007, thus if you want a better value for your investiment when the differences are tied or small, you may consider that.
Even more, if you buy the SLK and you want to change for the new one that is a mini-me of the SLR, you may get a better trade-in value with the C32 than the SLK32.

bye

C32
C32 is a $35K car with $15k drivetrain/brakes
SLK32 is a $25K car with $15K drivetrain/brakes and $15K retractable top.

I own C32 and did own SLK230 - check out the SLK closely before you buy. Seats are very uncomfortable and unadjustable, Steering wheel only telescopes not tilt. Arm rest is painful to elbow, and interior is made of very cheap materials - just my opinion.

well...to put it this way. the SLK is ready for change in less than a year from now, where C only began it's third year run and still few more years before a complete make over.

performance wise won't be much different as the current SLK32 vs the C32. the next gen SLK32 might be different, but that is still more than two years away.

of course the SLK32 will be better in turns of value and even less in production number compare to the C32. the SLK32 will be more expensive since it is a roadster and the retractable hard top

the question lies in weither do you want more room or more sun

but hey, what do i know. i never even consider the SLK32 when i got my C32.

personally, I feel like the SLK32 will be more of collectors car in the future...meaning I think it'll be more of a classic...the C32 on the other hand...well just look at the C43...that car personally does zero for me at this point....although I do LOVE the C32...and its safe (see above) until 2007.

Yeah right, maybe in 30 years. What would make the SLK32 a collector's car? What was the last Benz that even became a collector's car?

If you don't care about resale value and you can actually fit in the car, the SLK32 sounds like the more exciting vehicle. Of course, I'm just looking for a change driving around my boring C32 I hear the SLK can run with Ferraris pretty well on the drag strip so there ya go...

Right! And what year was that car made? Took a pretty long time for it to become a collector's item.

The 1992 500E is pretty desirable - they still go for 45K or so even now.

But I don't think it is a "collectable" No mass produced car is collectable until many, many years have gone by.

As far as the SLK32 - it is a good-looking, fast car. The interior, in my opinion, is several years behind the C-class - all the switchgear looks old, there are not nearly the gadgets, etc.
