Audi releases RS4 pricing
It's nice but it's too much money, IMO...
"Audi announced pricing today for the highly anticipated 2007 RS 4 sport sedan. Upon its launch in June, the RS 4 will have a base price of $66,000, not including a $720 destination and $2,100 gas-guzzler charge. A 4.2-liter direct injection V8 FSI engine produces an astounding 420 hp at 7800 rpm, and 317 ft.-lbs. of torque at 6000 rpm. This high-revving V8, in conjunction with a standard six-speed manual transmission and quattro all-wheel drive with a rear-based dynamic asymmetrical torque split, allows the RS 4 to run from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Standard 19-inch alloy wheels with 255/35 performance tires, a sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC), and a 1.5-inch wider track than S4 ensure that the RS 4 handles well, too. There will be one option package for the 2007 RS 4. The $4,700 Premium Package includes DVD Navigation and a six-disc CD changer, Homelink, auto dimming mirrors, driver’s side seat and mirror memory, rain sensor, upgraded Bose audio, Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth, heated rear seats, and power sun shades. Rear side air bags are a stand alone option for $350"

i like the AWD
v8
420hp
but 317hp is not enough.... and the biggest gripe, lack of easy mods
High revving engine is an automatic high compression ratio, meaning you can't do too much to get more power. Unless you go to FI, but it will be some serious $$
I rather take the new BMW 3.0 Biturbo and start there
stock it will be a nice ride, but I think its $10k too much.
I would wait for the lighter (same high revving M3) or wait of the torquey new C55/C63.

can that engine handle considerately more hp?
Maybe, but like TopGun alluded to, it might have too high of a compression in stock configuration to allow for, say, throwing a turbocharger or supercharger on it. I am also rubbing my hands together over the possibilities for the BMW. The only worry I have is that BMW announced that the turbos will each work only on one bank of cylinders - so to turn up the wick with bigger turbos will mean additional lag, since you can't just do like a Supra or 300ZX and have a smaller one that spools up fast, and a larger one for higher RPM power.
from the early reports, it will have 1 large turbo and 1 small.. one
the small one of course would be for torque and the larger one for hp.
I will have to dig in to that. But from what I remember that was the set up.
I just hope they make the internals to take lots more boost, which I think they will.
If one can raise the boost from the stock turbos and upgrade some mechanical components.. reaching 400hp from a 3 series manual coupe would be tons of FUN.
Maybe later it can be made into a monters.. ala Supra, 300zx, VRT-T
but the hole package would be interesting.
400hp 3L TT (modded estimate)
350 to 360 lbs of TQ. (modded estimate)
RWD
lighter than my C32
handles better than my C32
brakes better than my C32
SMG or manual
New coupe design is pretty good so far
price (probably mid 40's stock)
another $5 to 7k worth of upgrades
interior (not as nice as the IS, TL or new 07 G35)
