Kleemann Upgrade

I just got back from Colorado Springs. I had Kleemann do the kompressor and headers upgrades to my C55. The drive back to Chicago was uneventful and the car ran great. The only problem was the fuel gauge acted strange showing way less then was actually left in the tank. It corrected itself by the time I got home.

Congratulations! So the kompressor and headers are the only upgrade you did? No ecu, lsd or cam upgrades? You should've at least gotten the lsd and ecu. It would only help with traction issues. But nonetheless congrats.

Dyno Please

I've been trying to get another blown C55 dyno for sometime. AMGdragon's Kleemann C55K S7 recorded a 450rwp dyno and BennyZ's Renntech C55 recorded a 400rwp dyno. My crummy HPS Gen II recorded a high of 386rwp only after extensive ECU programming and a smaller pulley but it did not have any headers, exhaust, cams or LSD. HPS claims that Kleeman's seldom make over 380rwp. I would love to prove them wrong because I was totally fooled by their 414rwp dyno chart of my car that they sent me until I dyno'd it myself.

How can the drive home be uneventful? I would smash out on that thing all the way home!

So, really, how was the drive?

If it got a super-charger, wouldn't it HAVE to have an ECU change of some kind. IANA Mechanic, but I would think if you wanted to actually take advantage of it, you would need that. Also, anyone think an E55 motor would fit in our cars?...I know a guy ...

The bottom end of the C55 is different than an E55. The blowe will bolt on but it is not up to the boost made by the kit. The AMG blower would need to have a larger pulley made to make the blowe spin slower and make less boost.

The E55 has a different oiling system, lower compression, stronger block, stronger crank shaft and rods....etc.

Putting 11 psi on a C55 requires some serious work so getting a Kleemann or RENNtech low boost kit will be far more logical.

By uneventful I meant that after all the work I had done and a 1100 mile trip back I didn't have any problems with the car at all.

It was Memorial weekend. The police were out in numbers.

The route home is not the most exciting or scenic. I went through Eastern Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and Illinois on the way home. The toll gates in Illinois gave me an opportunity to hammer away. I was avaraging 23 mpg until I hit the first toll booth and in the last hundred miles it dropped to 21.

The car pulls so hard. It hits a peak at 3k and then really flys. The noise is unreal. Cruising at 80 though the car is completely quiet, no drone what-so-ever.

Let it be known the people at Kleemna are great, a real pleasure to wirk with.

The ECU was in the plan but the download from Denmark was wrong and of course the next day was a holiday. I had to get back so they left the stock program in until they can work out the new download. I will upgrade the ECU as soon as that is worked out. As for the LSD, I think I would prefer the Quaife to Kleemann. I never really considered the cams. It may give me something to do later.

Comparing the car before and after leaves very little to say. It should go without saying that the car is good deal faster. The headers make the car noisier under acceleration but at cruise the car is as quiet as ever. I feel a slight more vibration in the steering wheel when idling then it had before. Gas mileage is tough to determie. I got 23.3 going and was getting 23 coming back until I starting hammering away from the toll booths. The kick of hammering it has taken a serious toll on mileage but I didn't buy it for its economy. Accelerating up to normal speeds is completely effortless. You have to be careful when behind traffic. The sound and rush from the acceleration is addictive. I take the car out just to hear it again and feel the thrust on my back.

Definitely get the ECU as it also removes the limiter. I've no experience on Quaife so can't comment on it but i do have the LSD and it does help somewhat. The cams IMO is a must if you are looking for that mid to high kick. In any case again congrats on your mods.

I am more concerned about 1/4 mile time and speed. Terminal speed and car weight will give you a very good idea of what the horsepoweis being generated.

It was pulling 510hp on the Kleemann dyno with the stock ECU and zero adaption time for the upgrades.

You're right because HPS keeps asking me to track my car because they claim the downshifting on my car is preventing the full hp from being realized on a dynojet. AMGdragon posted his timeslips and his best 1/4 mile was 11.9 seconds. Please post your dyno chart and your time slips to show how awesome a Kleemann system is. I am trying to buy a used Kleemann kit from another member on this forum to replace my HPS Gen II.

Thanks!, Does it break loose at an 80mph kickdown?

I have been reading your saga for some time now and it was the main influence for going to Kleemann. I had dialog with Adam about the HPS upgrade because it could be purchased as a DIY. I am thankful to you for reporting your ordeal.

I don't have a way to scan the dyno chart but I can mail you a copy if you would like. They gave me 4/5 copies. I am not sure when I will get to the track. I have a major project going on with my Audi S4.

It depends on the condition of the pavement. The roads here are rough and having the rear wheels leave the surface momentarily does cause wheel spin. Traction is good on good surfaces.

Cool,

Who's S4 kit is it?

I had a 2001 B5 S4, before I had the Mercedes C32. It was either do the turbo upgrade or just buy the C32.

Hi Don,
the stage 3 kit is APRs. The exhaust headers, downpipes and cat back exhaust are all from Autospeed Performance and the intercoolers are from Awe tuning. I likes the APR kit because it has four programs selectable with the cruise control button. It has stock, 93 octane, 100 octane and valet.
