Supercharger always active?

During normal driving around town and on the freeway, is the supercharger always active? Lately, I've been experiencing a very noticeable lag in the performance of the car (03.5 C32). Especially noticeable on the freeway, it seems that sometimes, I can completely floor the throttle and it literally goes no where (or very very slowly). When I downshift, there is no noticeable difference either, as it just revs but doesnt go much faster. I did not notice this before, and around town power is great, on tap. It just seems that sometimes on the freeway the supercharger goes into some type of limp mode to conserve gas consumption? However, I'm skeptical as this is a performance car. I've tried it with ESP off and on, and sometimes it lags sometimes it doesn't and performs fine..real inconsistent. I brought the car to Autobahn motors in Redwood City, and they said the car is fine. I'm so confused. Can you guys help explain or suggest anything or is this normal C32 behavior? Thanks in advance guys, you've always been great help!

The SC does infact become disconected at idle and when you are cruising (HWY, low throttle). It seems it uses some sort of magnetic field to accomplish this. This helps conserve gas on the highway and even keep noise down at idle. However, this has no effect on the car's performance because as soon as gas is applied the SC almost instantly becomes active again. So sounds like you have another problem like the other members suggested.

Sounds like the intercooler pump problem, I recently had this problem.
When the engine is completely cold, there is plenty of power, till the supercharger heats up.
Drive around a little bit, under boost and the power goes away (like driving with a lawnmower engine).
If under warranty, have them check the Inlet air temp (IAT) after driving hard.
If the temp climbs excessively, then the Interccoler pump is the most likely suspect. Mine went out at 33k miles.

This sounds like it could be the problem, as the car has a little over 30k miles. I will bring it to the dealer within the week and keep you guys posted. Thanks a bunch.

I'd love to know where they come up with the 44% number.

You guys were right as i brought the car in to autobahn motors in redwood city and they said there was a faulty air cooler pump. They replaced it under warranty. Seems to be a problem under 03.5 C32's around 30k + miles. Thanks for the help guys
