Will xenon fogs set off the "bulb malfunction" sensor?

Will xenon fogs set off the "bulb malfunction" sensor?
Does the sensor look for a specific range of resistance in each bulb or does it just go off when the bulb blows (where resistance = infinity = not measurable).
I'd like to add xenon fogs to the car, but was wondering if I'll need to add a resistor prior to the ballast.
I searched the forum and while others have successfully installed xenon fogs, I could not find anything about resistors.

I had HID's in my 98' Infiniti I30's fog lights and the beam pattern was bad, very bad. I was blinding on comming traffic, it did however look nice

I have a set of Phillips D2S bulbs and OSRAM ballasts sitting around the house from my airline days, so this mod should be inexpensive.
I'll have to modify a 9006 bulb base to support the D2S bulb, but that will be the easy and fun part. I can always revert to stock in case it looks bad or blinds people.
