Disappearing coolant ..what is normal?

For the second time this summer I have received a low/add coolant message appear on my dash. Upon inspection of my coolant reservoir I have noticed the level is down to about half. This was also the case about three months ago. I topped it up to the black plastic portion of the reservoir and now, it seems, I have to do this once again. I haven’t gone on any long trips, changed my driving habits or noticed there are any visible leaks or evidence of coolant on the ground under the car. It has been a little hotter around this part of the country this summer but I wouldn’t think enough to make that much of a difference. This is the second summer I have had this car and I did not have to do this last year. I am just wondering what is the normal frequency for having to add coolant to a C32? Please note that I have a 2002 and my radiator says Valeo on it and, well, you know what I am thinking……….

It could be that it's getting into your intakes I think it was - this is a nasty and common problem.

I would try the intercooler pump before jumping to conclusions about the radiator.

I had the same prob (except mine was the washer fluid, as I have the Evo mods) and it was caused by the failing intercooler pump.

Thank you for the responses. I followed the link and read the discussion about the intercooler core leak etc...I was aware of intercooler pump failures on the C32 but not the intercooler core itself leaking. Good to know! I will give my service department a call tomorrow.

Missing Coolant

I had the same think happen to me. It turned out to be the radiator was leaking coolant into the transmission. The dealer replaced the radiator and transmission under warranty.

...this is what I am concerned about the most. It's a good thing I have extended warranty. I'll just have to wait and see what they say.
