The C32 is securely garaged. I live in Michigan, where salt is cheap and plentiful (and therefore frequently coating the roads). Auto enthusiasts really need winter cars here, and I love my Honda aluminum V6-powered AWD:

Mine has Nokian (made in Finland) winter tires and rims on. It is sometimes plowing through snow and salt 40 miles a day. It hurts . Wife will have to drive it for another month before I could let it rest in the garage. Did I say it hurts?

BTW, all C32 imported into Canada do have a block heater already installed. The only thing you need is a cord to be hoked up. My dealer charged me $30 for the cord (?) and half an hour labour. I would have installed it myself, if I knew what is involved...

Hmmm I needed to take it to the dealers and back the other day...

And every second of the 5 minute drive the ESP/Traction triangle was flashing! There was no ice/snow on ground, just salty roads. But it was about...10 degrees! Brrrr!

I did not have enough money for Winter Tires. So other than that needed trip to the Dealer, it will be staying in our garage.

i live in Vancouver and we get very little snow up here. with that said, we were hit by a snow storm a few weeks back and with my summer tires i obviously didnt drive, i waited a week for it to clear up + i couldnt stand the bus any longer. with very little snow (less than an inch) and only in small streets (my alley) i was stuck. it took 20 mins to park, i was sliding everywhere. i was being as gentle as i could but to no avail...

winter tires are a must but i wont invest in those for less than 7 days of snow a year here.

Back in October there was a freak snow storm, and the car behaved GREAT with my 19" PS2 summer tires. Now with the PS2s and clean snow/ice free roads, the car has no traction. The difference is that last time it wasn't nearly as cold out.

I had Blizzak's on my stock C32 wheels and they were okay in up to 6" of snow. Anymore than that, the car stayed in the garage. Last year, I had drive in 4" of really wet snow and the ESP was flashing every time I touched the gas.

Summer tires are only good above 7 degrees celsius. I drove in the white stuff through that week w/ 4 snowies and had no problems.

well in south florida here we don;t have to worry about snow.....
the local garbage trucks (owned by Wayne Huizenga) offer free snow removal
however in the thirteen years i have lived down here, i have yet to see them in action.

Kudos to you brave winter drivers!! I live in NY, near NYC and drive my C55 all winter. As has been said before, dedicated snow tires are a must with that car. Summer tires can not deal with temperatures under 35 degrees much less one half inch of snow. I should know, I also got stuck in my driveway with summer tires on my C43 and less than an inch of snow. I run Pirelli snow sport 225 18's on all four corners. Switching to C also helps. I may have to remove my sprint booster.

Regards

What helps as well is switching the tranni to Winter mode. It starts in 2nd gear and switches earlier to avoid wheel spins. This is available on the C32, it should be on the C55 too...

Since this post got brought back from the dead I should update my situation. I picked up a set of Pirelli Winter 210 Sottozero's. They are run flats which should help since the car has no spare tire... The tires go on this Wednesday.

Did some search and came up with this thread.

Since winter is soon coming, i am planning to get a set of winter tires.

Is it good to drive around with 245/45/17 on all 4 wheels? (oem AMG rims)

Any other suggestions? thanks in advance.

Two words young man -- Bridgestone Blizzaks. I haven't driven this car in winter yet but drove an '04 C230 sport sedan with the same tire sizes as the C32 for 3 winters in Chicago and it was fine with the BBs. The stock Pilot Sports or Continental ContiSports would be suicide. They don't heat up enough to have any grip in the cold and they don't have a proper tread to handle even light snowfall.

Alternatively, you could get an "all season" sport tire like the Pirelli P-Zero Nero but it probably wouldn't be as good in the winter as the Blizzaks or as good in the summer as the Pilot Sports or other dedicated performance tire.

C32 AMG - RIP :(
While I don't think we're going to get much snow here in Las Vegas, I have full intentions of driving my C32 on 265/30/19 Goodyear F1's up to Brian Head to go skiing this winter. Probably a time or two up to Las Vegas Ski also.

Just a light foot on the throttle and little knowledge of how to drive in the snow goes a long way.

C32 T 2003. Mods? MANY!! :)
I tried it the first winter I owned the car, bought a new set of tires with studs, (do you call it that?), and I found that it is just to much power to the tires for it to get a good grip. So now days, if I'm home in the winter, I leave the my C32 and just use another car.
I live in Stockholm, Sweden, so we get quiet a lot of snow! And no, no polarbears!

I bought cheap aftermarket AMG replicas and used Hancook winter tires and as long as you used the proper throttle amount I was fine and with as much torque it still did way better then I expected....Now after two good snow seasons I just bought I think Yokohama Winters and will try them out next for this winter. They are 235/45(could be wrong)/17

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I think I am gonna go with staggered 225/45/17, 245/40/17 on Dunlop Winter Sport M3. Heard some good comments about them.

1FSTAMG, I've learned from some researches that if you are planning to drive on snow/ice, it is better to keep the tires narrow. The more contact tires have with snow the easier to slip. Hope you have an enjoyable winter of skiing. How I wish I am back in Vancouver BC, I wanna board at Whistler so bad...
