C55 Suspension Kit/Coilovers

I just ordered a set of Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers for my 2006 C55 with installation for $2150. Is that a good price?

Are Bilstein's the best or KWs and H&Rs? I was told by Evosport that H&R does not make a kit for the C55 and by Eurorev that KW doesn't either.

What's your custom suspension setup and are you satisfied?

That sounds like a really good deal! I think that suspension normally retails for more than what you're paying with install. I've only heard great things about the PSS9, especially because of its versatility. Keep us posted on your impressions, I am seriously considering it for my C55.

Robert, you already ordered the suspension. Any feedback is not going to matter now.

I think everyone will agree that you just got the best kit available for the C55.

It's too bad you didn't check with us before. We have PSS9 kits for <$1600.

Can you PM me with the exact price for a C55 setup? Are you in California? Does this include sales tax? Please reply soon as I just put my order on hold.

I paid $1,620 for my set. But, install will run you about $500 so that seems like a good price.

Coilovers not enough for optimal suspension perf?

I just heard from a Mercedes Techie that I would also need to replace the DROP SPINDLEs and possibly install a C-Shaped Arm in order to preserve the proper wheel alignment. Is this true?

He told me that if I don't do this the car's Geometry would be affected and the tires will Camber outwards. The Caster would also be affected negatively which woud prevent the wheels from automatically straightening out after a turn. Not even a $2,500 coilover kit would help handling, ride and performance without these other adjustments according to him.

Does anyone agree with him? If you had aftermarket suspension work on your AMG, did you REALLY feel an improvement in cornering, ride and performance? Or was it just comestic? Does your tires camber outwards? If it does then I think it would actually look worse than non-lowered stock.

i dont know where everybody is getting this 500 installation charge from.

alot of places do it for 150-200 at 75 to 100 dollars/hr

its roughly 2 hrs of labor with the proper equipment, not 5hrs. at most 3hrs.
if they told me it was 5 hrs of labor id watch them for 5 hrs and see what the hell is taking them so long.

Agreed. I've watched Darwin at CarLAB install both my sets in under two hours.

Shops usually charge what the book recommends unless they know you personally. I know that BMW thinks the suspension job is something ridiculous like 2 hours per corner and I'm sure probably MB isn't too far off.

I highly doubt that you'll pick up positive camber (assuming that's what you mean by outwards). The suspension is supposed to have a set camber curve as it compresses so by lowering it, you'll just pick up some negative camber which is great for cornering. Downside is you'll wear out your inner shoulders more but you can always add in more toe-in to help.

The point about the steering wheel straightening out, he's just saying that you'll loose caster but that'll only make the steering more agile/sensitive at lower speeds and lose some of that high speed stability. I doubt this will do anything devastating to the car...if anything I wish I had less caster for around-town driving.

I think the norm thinks less roll = better handling but you will never know if the handling improved unless you hit a racetrack and see the laptimes and feel for youself how the car has changed to different driving inputs.

I really wouldn't worry about it if I were you...but warranty issues is another story....

If you don't mind explaining, what sort of modifications either to the car or kit did you have to perform?

I can answer that for him if he doesn't mind. The rear shocks were installed backwards causing the external reservoir to "clank" when the control arm compressed.

Bilstein PSS9 are by far the best suspension setup for the C-Class. I pretty much installed and test ride every single suspension setup for the W203 and I can vouch for the PSS9 ride quality.

in regards to the drop spindles, I have no clue whatsoever The camber can be easily adjusted by replacing it with either the K-MAC (addtional toe adjustment) or speedybenz Camber arm.

Call us if you need any further assistance.

Regards

Which seems to be just an install error and has nothing to do with the kit. I think i was the first person to have the KW V2s on my C55. They fit fine and worked great. No problems.

Can you give me a quote by PM for these suspension components? Who do you recommend in So Cal that can do the install best?
