180 miles, 5.6 mpg

did a track day yesterday at pocono north. 2 tanks of gas, 5.6 mpg avg, one set of brake pads, left front tire (advan a048) down to wear bars.

worth it? YES!

my sides ache from keeping myself upright in car. my *** muscles also ache. neck to a lesser extent. car worked well, no hiicups.

going onto the nascar banking at 100 and feeling car drift, scrubbing sideways........awesome.

i noticed i was braking later than most everyone else.....but gawd the c32 can bleed off speed like crazy. a048, ate blue, porterfield rs4s.

cartct.com for 175 bux you get 5.5 hrs of open track time at the pocono events. at the end a relay "race" of 5 cars each is done...a really great bunch of guys.

next week i'm back but with a diferent organization. hoping to have my suspension sorted out by then.

come on out and run lime rock 10/02. give the drag racing a break!

Rears tend to last about 3 track days while fronts will be gone in less less than one. The track we use most often is very hard on drivers side front tires and it tends to be gone before the end of the day.

Thats why you have 2 sets of wheels

Our brake pads tend to last maybe 2-3 events but they are pagid Black pads in a 4 wheel stoptech kit. R4S is a far more streetable pad than the Black.

Cyn: I put Pagid Yellow Endurance front brake pads on the C55 and was pleased with both braking and wear over 3 days.. Looks like they will go 3 events. They are designated as part No. E1427 19 010. What is the Pagid part No. for the Blacks, and where do Blacks fit on the Pagid race list?

what tires do you guys use? i'm contemplating getting the hoosier R6s which apparently is the cat's meow as far as r comps. 245/40 fronts and keep 255/40 yoke a048s in rear.

some photos here. http://www.cartct.com/09-01-06p.shtml

hopefully i will fix some of the roll and dive when i get the susp sorted out.

my typo i use r4 pads (not r4s) they lasted 4 events prob 5 hrs total run time then the last event was open track so 2+ hrs?? (time flies when having fun). still a bit left but will renew this week.

I ran Michilen Pilot Cups on my C32. On the C55 I have run both Hoosiers and Kuhmo 710s, which are pretty comprable. If you want to reduce the understeer in your C32, try the same size wheels front and back. I have been running BBS wheels, with 245/35-18s front and rear. Still have to reduce the rear pressures about 3-4 pounds from front, which gets the car to balance well with the ESP off.

I bought a second set of AMG wheels and will be un-staggering my tires (all wide for summer + track, and all narrow for winter. Can't wait to try it at the track.

dsc32...what's the offset and width of your BBS rims?

fifth ring i found a set of rears 17x8.5 at $125 which is a good price but also am considering the 18" replica amg twin wheels sold by discount tire. just need to make sure the hoosiers 245/35 can fit on the 8.5' 37mm ET wheel.

Other than clearing your brake calipers, for track use, it's generally better to go with a smaller wheel (17"). In addition to a better selection of cheaper tires, a smaller wheel should be lighter (although the AMG wheels are very heavy).

AWDman: I don't know off the top of my head what the offset is. But it is the same as the rear wheels on the C55. They are the same size. If you contact TireRack they can tell you what will fit, prices etc. Thats where I bought the BBS wheels fitted with Hoosiers (at least 3 or 4 tire changes back).
