Weird sound...

I have a strange cyclic clicking sound emanating from the dash about every 4-5 seconds at start up. It seems to go away after a little while but I can't think of what may be causing it. I thought it might have something to do with the climate control but the sound remains even with it off. Has anyone run into anything similar? Cause/solution?

boken AC air vent link. Probably the one that controls the flap for the foot well vent. Another very common problem on the C-Class.

Is it really from the dash, or could it be from the front driver's side engine compartment - can you hear it from the outside - pop the hood and listen in there. It's possible it's the purge-valve if it is. No big deal, you can ignore it or have it fixed. The fix is like $20 last I heard. If it's really coming from the dash, then I have no idea.

definately from the dash...

After some experimentation with the climate control I would have to say I am 99.99% certain dchao's diagnosis is dead on the money. Thanks again, now just the issue of locating the part so I don't get robbed by the stealership!

Don't forget, you can resync the stepper motor and flaps but the linkage most likely will need to be replaced.

To resync the flaps press the defrost and recirculate buttons at the same time. The flap will cycle for up to 30 seconds then stop. If they keep cycling for longer than 30 sec it means they cant all sync due to a faulty stepper motor or linkage.

If you want to fix it yourself, here is some help:

Sweet!

I'm pretty sure your right about the linkage, but I didn't realize there was a resync feature. That module will help alot.

Thanks again!

I haven't fixed mine yet. just don't have time to take it in since they don't offer loaner for the extended warranty.
