new owner - clueless about COMAND

I just got a 2003 C32 (all stock with xenons, 6-cd changer) a couple months ago. And have since then, been kinda annoyed by the lack of the COMAND system (it started in 2004 and later, right?)

Just checking out various threads and mbenznl.com - still have a few questions for seasoned folks:

1. How do I upgrade to have COMAND capability? Does it include dvd navigation? Not a necessary feature but nice to have.
2. What will happen to my current in-glove cd changer? I'd rather toss it out to use my ipod instead, personally.
3. How much does it cost (buy + install) and how do I get one?
4. Any options for bluetooth phone integration?

You don't say where you are located -US, UK, Europe etc. Useful to post the car you own and the state or county etc. There are people who specialise in retro fitting COMMAND both in US and UK and one such firm is Dutch I think.

1. The only comand that will work in your car without huge modifications, is a CD-rom based unit. And no, it didn't 'start' in 2004...
2. The CD changer you have, will be compatible with the comand unit. You can opt for an additional auxiliary input so that you can hook up your iPod.
3. check with MBenzNL.com for a refurbished (Euro) unit, or anew (US spec) comand.
4. Yes. ... and again, check with MBenzNL.com.

BTW, what hawk20 says, is correct: it is always helpful to know where one is located. There are differences in US, Euro and Japanese spec MBs.

Seattle, thus US spec W203. Meaning that it is pre-wired for phone, so it is rather easy to get a Bluetooth phone kit installed.

2005+ US spec W203s - like your C55 - will NOT be able to work with the Euro W203 DVD comand. That is, navigation will be useless, because the unit doesn't work with the NA nav. DVD.

Radio will work - of course, although AM stations differently - as well as compatibility with iPod kit, CD changer...

Well... I don't know who to recommend in your area, but I may be able to convince Steve (MBenzNL) to go there next year again. Provided that we can get enough work in the Seattle / Vancouver area.

If you want me to put your name on our future install list, just send us an email informing us what you are looking for: s_krabbenborg@hotmail.com, or Steve@MBenzNL.com.
