Interesting intake set up..

Maybe I could use better filters (green corn / K&N or Apexi) and make a set up like this. Also could use a heatsheild to make it a true cold ram air intake...I wonder if this set up could gain more power than just drop ins....

Never seen this kind of set up for C55s and I thought i should share this with fellow memberz

the only thing i dont like about that setup is it sucks all the hot engine air in whereas the factory box at least dips into fresh air

Making a heat sheild shouldn 't be too hard.. You can make it like BMW intake system..

I think this set up will be so much better than stock replacement.. if it is done rite of course~~

some vendor should make a kit like this.. hehe

I did that already

No HP gain, just sound improvement. and also, the intake tubes fell into the engine bay and damaged my V-belt and chipped one of my pulleys

thanks but there is NO performance gains. Unless you go with the no airbox set-up that our fellow CLK member did.


also, not sure if you guys have seen/read my "intake theory" thread.

but by removing your plasting/kevlar intake tubes, your car would be louder. seriously will. that has been proven by myself and anthuny85. it would be sucking hot air, but hp wise probably +/- 1/2. no biggie, but engine sounds great, especially with k&n or green!

I think those things look

I've actually been talking with member vrus about making carbon fiber intake tubes that have heat shielding layers inbetween the layers of carbon fiber as well. If there is enough interest in them hopfully we can get a group buy going on them. This will probably all take place in a few months and I'll be posting it up here.

I'm pretty sure it's been proven that the air passing thru the intake is so fast that it doesn't have time to heat up and any heat resistant material really wouldn't help in this case unless your idling for long periods at a time.

it would work if

you take away the airbox and use longer tubes to the back of the engine tb

put filters closer to grill and lower a little, and have (proper) heat shields that dont completely cover the filter

I agree, while engine is idling, it doesnt really "suck" in the air. especially while the car is moving, when the air is "sucked" in, from the engine bay or outside, air wouldnt heat up THAT fast

if even stock air intake systems gather air from outside of the eng compartment than I am pretty sure it matters...otherwise to save nickles manufacturers wouldent go through all the trouble?
