Thoughts on X piping the center exhaust on a C55

I wanted to get some peoples opinions on X piping the portion where the secondary CATs are. Do you think it will do anything or would be completely worthless since the exhaust goes into a Y pipe just past the secondary CATs. I've been told it will improve low end and top end torque, but I think they are just guessing. Any thoughts will be helpful.

Some guys did this over at benzworld with 210E55's. From what I remember it didn't gain much. I think the X pipe is better for true dual exhausts that run all the way back L&R banks. The X pipe is should equalize the pressure between the two cylinder bank's exhaust flow. At least thats what I gather with an X pipe.

I agree...maybe you should remove the y-pipe and run straight pipes back.

Hey guys,

I was the first to do it on my W210 E55 over on benzworld. Yes I did get good gains (about 5-7 wheel HP on the top end) but i have not had a chance to look at the C55 exhaust. If the C55 does not have any crossover pipe, it will help, but if it has a crossover pipe stock then it probably won't help that much. I love the X-pipe and its definitely the best mod i've done so far, plus the sound is amazing (improved sound even over normal resonator bypass).

Believe it or not that x-pipe also helps with the cooling off of the exhaust I'm told. Especially on the F/I 55 cars!

I don't think an X pipe would help either if it ultimately must lead into a single pipe. Logically it doesn't seem to work in my mind. Has anyone done a dual pipe all the way back on a C55?
