Talked to a dealer today that my car is in for service at about even just getting TA disabled but they can't even do that any longer, waiver or otherwise. Gotta live with the perpetual "Malfunction" and the beeping, I guess...

Got the same $1500 price figure too, for upgrading it

you need a master program code to access the star-diag manual. steve or sunil/sunman can do it.

Come on...do you honestly think everything is secure online? If a pro thief really wanted your car they can get it. The movie "Gone in 60 seconds" is a good example research car thieves and the technology they use to get what they cars they want. Full coverage insurance is only safety you have.

the basic upgrade for the digital upgrade is 600 plus installation. Not sure if the 1500 includes any subscription or not.

When I did mine there were 3 options’ the part was $200.00 with $200.00 rebate $200.00 labor. The $600.00 option as best as I can remember was for a 1 years subscription. I think there was an $800.00 option was 3 years again I don’t remember exactly. The $1500.00 is for a life time subscription. (As long as you own the car).

Not told about upgrade when i bought my car

I just sent a pretty strong email to the GM and SM of my local Mercedes Dealer. The salesman made such a big deal about the Teleaid system but never told me that I had to pay to upgrade it. I'll let you know what they say when they respond but I am going to try to get them to pay for it.

Thanks.

Joe

Too many to list
Teleaid is for those poor old lady who cant dial their cell phones correctly because of Parkinsons or don't have one, or for those who have amnesia or epilepsy (forgets key in car). My cell phone is by my side 24-7, not my car.

Or the batteries have gone dead in the FOB, OR the car gets stolen and you would really like to get it back. Or, you’re driving in the middle of the night and you get a malfunction and you'd like to know what it is. Or your car gets broken into and you’d like to know about it before you get back the next day. Or have an accident and you’re hurt and just can’t find your cell phone while the car is upside down.

There is no master code needed to disable teleaid. It's a simple procedure and any dealer can do it if they want to do it. Simply go into INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, CONTROL UNIT ADAPTATIONS, TELEAID=NOT PRESENT

This will get rid of the malfunction error code.

Surprisingly, I haven't had a malfunction error code on my '02 yet. I certainly expected one. I'm hoping to avoid the dealer visit.

Change in Tele-Aid Upgrade Equipment???

I decided to upgrade my Tele-Aid on my 2005 ML350, mainly because my wife had a scary experience last summer in an area where she had no cell phone service. She used Tele-Aid, and the police were there very quickly.
I brought my vehicle in to the MB dealer in mid-December for the Tele-Aid upgrade (quote was $1800 for installation and lifetime service--I know it's a rip-off, but.....). A few days prior to my bringing it in, my service advisor had me bring the vehicle by to see which Tele-Aid part mine required (he said there's 2 different Tele-Aid upgrade parts). They looked at it and said they had it in stock.
After I dropped it off for the upgrade, that day the service advisor called and said they'd made a mistake, they didn't have my part in stock. He said they'd order it and call me when it came in. Now over a month later. I called him, he said Mercedes is releasing a new Tele-Aid upgrade part, and it's not out yet.
Anybody know what's going on? Thanks.

Teleaid is a waste. Why would anyone pay for this service when cell phones are so prevalent? Having a 'car phone' is so antiquated. My '02 has it but I've never used it.

If anything, I might go the bluetooth route - but even then I would have a hard time justifying the cost since I just use my phone when making calls. That being said, it's illegal to use your phone while driving here in Chicago and having a hands-free system instead of those annoying earbuds would be cool.

The technology is cell phone technology not Department Of Defense $500 hammer technology. I was seriously considering moving up to a R63, but I think I'll let another car manufacturer takes it's turn at jerking me around.
The 1500 is for life time service.

Just wondering if anybody knows about this new Tele Aid upgrade part, which my dealer still says hasn't been released? It seems like it's taking a long time. I originally brought my ML350 in December to get the upgrade, and have been waiting ever since....

Well, since someone brought it up....
the teleaid in my car is stuck on stupid. It comes up trying to make a call all the time, saying, 'please authorize', and comes up as a malfunction when the car is parked.

Does anyone know how to turn the darn thing off?

I also just received a call from an attorney with Girard Gibbs, who has indicated that this analog->digital issue is now being litigated before a single judge in NJ to certify a class action status of the case.

So this issue is not dead yet.

Bump:

I found a good Star mechanic that did my brakes and oil change, and asked him about it. He says only the dealer can turn off the Teleaid malfunction.

Has anyone here had any luck just disabling the thing? I don't want it, I'm not going to pay for it, and I'm sick of seeing that "1 Malfunction" BS on my display.

I love this car, but htat is just stoopid.

yea but so what if the cop was there in a few minutes or few hours? the burgler is gone lol. Anyways is you have an emergency you can pay the $1,500 and make it as easy as pressing a button.....or keep your cellular phone plan and hit two buttons, operator and call.

In my old 2001 w220 the unit is under the rear seats, you pop them up, & just cut the cable leading to Tel-aid box, shut it right the hell up

I am thinking about getting it upgraded I think its personal preference.
I see it as cost of ownership just like the $100.00 OIL changes.

You do realize an oil change takes only 10 minutes right?

Well, that's one option.... Has anyone had the same problem though? It says "SOS call, please authorize"
Also, it causes the display to always register "1 malfunction"

If anyone has taken it to the dealer, how much was it?
