$1500 Teleaid Upgrade

Okay folks, I think I'm done. $1500 to upgrade my analog Teleaid in 2002 C32 to digital. Give me a break! I understand that the FCC is forcing the move to digital, but $1500 (okay $1300 after a generous $200 rebate). The technology is cell phone technology not Department Of Defense $500 hammer technology. I was seriously considering moving up to a R63, but I think I'll let another car manufacturer takes it's turn at jerking me around.

Get one out of the junkyard on a new model. 200.00 at most. Install it yourself. Takes 10 mins.

My own experience with the Teleaid on my 2005 CLK was that it wasn't worth the money. It took so long to get a connection. It was 100% easier just to use my cell phone

I've used the Teleaid once. I will not be getting the upgrade. I'm more worried about resell/trade-in value of the car without the upgrade. The normal depreciation on these cars is bad enough without having to worry about an option that no longer works. I just feel that the price for the upgrade is extremely overpriced. I understand that it is MB, but come on. According to the MBUSA website, Teleaid for a new C230 is $820. And yes, I know that some labor is involved in installing the upgrade.

What is this all about? I haven't heard anything from anybody about the Teleaid in my '02 C32.

I basically have never used the Teleaid and have wasted money keeping it active. However, I wonder if I have paid for the service and it isn't even active.

I answered my own questions with a google search. Check out this thread:

Carl AMG, thanks for the google search result. I know my 05 C55 telaid system is dual digital/analog. I keep the service for my wife -- it gives me piece of mind that she only has to remember to hit one button to get help in case of an emergency.

habu:

I would not worry about it at trade-in time.

There is not even a check box for it in any of the software dealers use to appraise the car.

Worry about more important things in life.

Yes, I had one other issue. $900 for a fuel pump replacement (originally was going to be $1900). Car has only 35K miles. I work on and around electronic equipment day in and day out. I know that the $1500 upgrade is a rip off.

My experience with teleaid has been pretty good...

Pretty fast response, and the person stayed on the line until the police arrived.

Actually, in my ML I didn't know that the Teleaid had run out...I was out with some friends and my tire blew, so I'm like don't worry I'll just hit this button. We wait like 10 mins with the screen saying it's connecting, but in the end a female voice says, "Sorry, but it seems you do not have the teleaid service. Please call and activate it, or visit your local Mercedes Benz Dealership for more information." I was pissed, but my friends got quite a chuckle out of it!

who friggin cares. they wouldn't even find a tow-truck when my sis got into an accident with her CLK with smashed windshield few years back since the operater thinks it wasn't a big enough accident. Plus they also wouldn't send me a tow truck because i told'em I don't have a spare and I need the tow-truck to drop my car off at the tire shop I use literaly 3 min away from where I blew one of my tire. I had to drive a block on the flat at 0-1mph to make it inside the community i live in and park on the side of the road.

i'm done ranting. haven't subscribe to teleaid since.

Wife hit a deer on the interstate at 80+. Teleaid was able to dispatch the police and check on her to ensure she didn't need medical care. Its a must have as far as I'm concerned.

The $1500.00 is for life time service or as long as you own the car the $820 is for 1 year service.
But the $200,00 is to have it installed at $100.00 and hour.
I am thinking about getting it upgraded I think its personal preference.
I see it as cost of ownership just like the $100.00 OIL changes.

Tele Aid Upgrade

Has anyone ever upgraded a ML500? How difficult is it and where is the box located that needs to be replaced? I' sick of paying the dealer huge rates to do nothing. Last time I had an oil change done they charged me $260 and 3000 miles later I needed new brakes and found out the front end was out of alignment. Jiffy lube gives you better service than that.

I believe the $250-300 a year is worth it just for peace of mind ... I mostly like that it calls the police automatically with air bag deployment. I've used it a few times in my 2007 and I didn't have any negative issues. I like being able to program automatic door unlock times online. I guess it's just a nice option since it was already in the car. Also the MB service reps were very nice and the signal was very strong/clear...

If I bought another new MB i would definitely get teleaid.. Would I pay $1,500 to upgrade? Hmmm that's a tough one.. Likely not just get a new car

Just my .02

I got a call a few weeks ago from Girard Gibbs LLP. They took a bunch of info and said they would get back in touch with me.

The way you can go online and unlock/kock doors a thief can do the same if they aquired your info....anything online is readable by all if you have the smarts.
