What brand of tyre do you have fitted? I ask because I am thinking of changing from Continental Contact Sport 2’s and would like some opinions on the performance of other brands.

I run boggo stock wheels.

Hey there:

For the money, and good street use, you can't beat the Goodyear GS-D3. I have tracked many cars, with strret and race tires, and you just can't beat the Goodyear for all around driveability. Keep in mind, that it is NOT designed for snow. Just like many other performance tires.

By the way, if your on a budget, the Yokahama ES100 is a great , somewhat cheap, tire. The draw back with the yok's are that they are NOISEY!!!!

I've got Yoko ES100s and they are cheap. I used them almost brand new at the track, and they were OK. I've not had noise problems, and they are about 1/3 worn. We'll see if they get worse.

If you r on budget go with Continental Contiextreme. Approx $100.00 ea. from tirerack.com excellent for all season.
I put on those approx 8000 miles in Chicago: summer (very hot) and winter mix of rain snow/ice. Dry and wet traction is superb, snow - good(can not compare w/snow tires). Some of my friends also run those tires , no compliants from them either.

I love the Eagle F1 GS-D3s too. They're really quiet and I always hated roaring tires on a Benz, just seemed out of place.

Currently on Nokian WR's for winter, and Avon ZZ3's for summer use.
Not sure I'm overly impressed with the ZZ3's. Not very good in the wet.

Toyo T1R's are one of the best performing tires for the money, period. i used to work at a tire shop and got to know a lot of the performance oriented brands...there are a handful of tires that will outperform the Toyo in one or two categories, but you cannot beat them for the price...

PS: Stay away from Michelins, bsides the high price of course, My 2001 M Roadster could not keep up with My 2000 Mustang on the Yok ES100. Now I Know that the M could have beaten it, but the Stock Michelins were really junk.

i'm on the GS-D3'S and can definitely recommend them.
they've lasted much longer than the michelins did, grip better,and imo they look great too

the backs are now getting ready for replacing and i've been thinking of trying bridgestones to see if they improve traction, anyone had any experience with the s02's

I had'em and recommended everyone i know to them. all loves it.

currently I'm on my budget set tho. Hankook k104. other than they loose tire pressure quicker than some others they're decent performance tires.

I've got Michellin PS2's.. They are about 70% worn in the rear with about 10k miles.. UG.. They had great grip at first, but now they just spin like crazy.. I will not be buying them again unless I just replace the rears.. Fronts are still like new

friend of mine works for Nitto and recommended the Nitto invos. I just got them and they're wayyyy quieter than the original tires. Haven't had a chance to beat up on them around turns and stuff but full throttle launches only induce a little churp so I think grip is pretty good.

I go through rear tires like crazy and have had good luck with the Fusion ZRi's. Great bang for the buck IMO. It's strickly a summer performance tire though and SUCKS in cold conditions. On hot dry pavement these things are like glue however...

Thanks guys. Yea, was thinking about F1 Eagles but they are quite pricey. T1R's seems to have good reviews too, but for less lolly.

Hmm, Good to dispel the PS2 myth though.

I love my Bridgestone Potenza Reo50A they are expensive but they are a great tire...very firm sidewall you lose a little comfort bc of it but they handle great, grip great and ive had them since october and they are still like new. I monitor my tire wear after having two pairs of the perellis! Highly recommend them.

the PS2 at the handling limit is better than the Eagle F1, so the handling myth may still be true. In wet the eagle F1 GS-D3 is simply the best performance tire out there.

drove friend's car with T1R, they're on par with the Hankook k104 IMO. people are also underestimating the k104s.

depending on your budget

$1200 go with PS2
$850-950 go with Eagle F1 GS-D3
$650-700 go with k104 or T1R
$550-650 or even less can't go wrong with General.

RE050A? treadwear 140AA. if those don't help the car handle better I dunno what will. unless you track, I wouldn't recommand any tire rating less than 200-220 minimum. let us know how long the 050A will last. one of my friend has it on his 06 S2000.

Did anyone here have any experience with General Exclaim UHP?? Looks like they have a good price and have good reviews on Tirerack.

yes, few friends have'em one being a C240 with full brabus and DCR 19's another one being a C55 with lorinser LM6. They're quiet and comfortable and will last you quite long, but lacks in road holding of course and lateral response. You can't beat it as daily driving tires, but probably keep moutain driving at minimum. I had pretty good hours of seat time driving those two cars.

I keep hearing good things about the Toyo T1R, but the editors at Car and Driver don't seem to like it. On the Dec. 2005 issue, they compared a whole bunch of tires, expensive and cheap ones, and Toyo didn't score well. However, I believe that user reviews are sometimes more honest, so Toyos might not be as bad as the C&D had suggested.

I have Fusion ZRi made by Bridgestone. So far I had them for more than 10,000miles, and they performed very well. Very little tire noise. Too little in fact that I wish they squeal a little so I know when to stop pushing when I take corners fast. Very little tire wear too; they still look new! The only thing that I don't like about it is its stretch look even when I have 265 on 9.5 rim. I also don't like about the huge rim guard which is ugly.

On the other hand my buddy recently got Falken FK452 for his RX8 with Tein coilovers. I must say I like the look of FK more than the ZRi. They are also quieter than ZRi and they ride very nicely compare to his previous tires, which were Bridgestone RE040s(they were mighty harsh and loud as hell). I definitely recommend Falken FK452 and Fusion ZRi for budget tires.
