Strange!? Speedlimiter/ECU question

As soon as I purchased this car (used) I went and found the longest stretch of road I could find and held the sucker to the floor. I could swear I pulled it up to the speed limited 155mph and stopped. Since then I haven't had it up that fast and usually will let off around 120-130mph tops in a short sprint...until this morning. Had an insanely long open stretch of road going over an open bridge. I decided to open her up again. This time it pulled up to 166mph before running out of road!!? It wasn't climbing all that fast (to be expected) but it WAS still climbing when I let off.
The dealer has flashed my ECU a few times now when they first tried to fix the infamous jerk in 2nd and ended up doing a 2003 C32 software update, so they said. Any chance they somehow removed my speed limiter or is my digital speedo way off? Same size tires as before, just wider in the rear. Possibly a modded ECU from previous owner? Would the dealer jackin with the ECU remove any tuning the ECU may have previously had?
I'm hoping to take the camera with next time and shoot some video of the speedo. Haven't see too many video's on youtube of a C32 pushin 170mph.

I can't get to the site from work, but in any of those clips are they close to or over 170mph? I have seen a ton of clips on youtube before, but never that fast. Will look at the links you provided after work.
Regardless, anyone able to shed some light on how my limiter was removed?

Wow, even though I've been there once, it is crazy thinking about driving that fast. Be careful and slow down!

yeah I remember and you were critisized for it........................besides staying with the 911 turbo.

Hey Silverbullet just do a dyno test JGSX told me that thats a way to tell if your limiter is off or if the ECU is modded.

Yes, I did the critisizing. His instance was in and out of traffic. SilverBulletAMG's is too fast for public roads too. Just call me the Kill-joy.

Anyway, yes I've seen flashed C32's going up to 177 on youtube. I can't imagine the dealer flashing the ECU with unlimited software though.

By the way. As much as I love my C32, it could never hang with a properly driven 911 Turbo.

The dyno itself won't show if the speed limiter is off, it is just a way to spin your wheels past 155mph to see if the limiter kicks in

Good call. I've been wanting to get mine dyno'd as a baseline for some time now. Just have to find one around here.

As for the speeding, I do not condone it or do this on a regular basis. It's just hard to hold back when you have a nice 4 lane road all to yourself at the butt crack of dawn. Better than any cup of coffee I've ever had in the a.m.!

As I explained earlier, there was no traffic around when we did high speed pulls. The traffic was stuff that we had to wait to get around before getting to open road.

As I also clearly said in my reaccount, the 911 turbo pulled on me pretty good. There isn't much proper driving required on a high way pull. You hit the throttle and hold the steering wheel.

Hey, jgsx, all is cool. Just some calm banter between adults that appreciate high speed and beautiful cars. I wish track days were easier and cheaper. We could get it out of our systems there, regularly.

I do recall most of your story and I also remember thanking you for owning up to your piece of the behavior.

Believe me, I no angel when it comes to driving habits. I would smack me in the head some days if I was a bystander.

Just 2 final points; 1)I haven't seen you stalking elturco and taunting him in some time now. He still deserves all the crap you can give him and 2)having only ridden in a 997 turbo, I was quite sure that beast would leave me with my shorts around my ankles, even on the straights. I forgot yours has the stage 2 and more. That obviously would make it closer.

I know you mean well Scotty, thanks for the nice attitude. Message forum posts can don't do a good job of expressing emotion, I'm sure that sometimes some of my posts come off as hostile when I mean no harm at all. I'm a pretty laid back guy.

I'm such a fraidy cat in the passenger seat of a performance car. I would sure love a ride in a 997t. I haven't been in a 911 turbo in . . . , wow, since like 1998.

Elturco got called out too hard in the C32 forum, so now he has moved on to the E55 forum, and is 'considering' purchasing just about every exotic car out there.

Ive had my 2002 C32 at 161 before coming up on traffic. It is all stock. Maybe some just dont have that limiter. Anythings possible. And it had plenty plenty more. I could see it doing the 175-180 with no problem.
