335i coupe Vishnu tuned tested

Okay,

I have been on the beamer forums reading about this car and I'm pretty much up to date about this car.

I read how people in the beamer forums.. really thought this car with a XEDE or ProcEDE chip and no 2nd cats, and new piping and magnaflo mufflers could run mid to low 12's.

however this article clearly shows the 335i at the trap speed and time I thought it would clock.

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=119485

the car on this test is running 340+RWHP and 390RWTQ. With the new updated files by Vishnu it runs 350+/400tq on 93 Octane. So for us in california, that is very important.

the car runs 13.0 at 109 on this test. This is a 6 manual car. Not an automatic. Therefore its putting more power to the ground, due to less drive train loss. Auto's should be very similar in ETA but will suffer a bit on trap speed.

(edmunds tested an auto 335, which was faster than a 6sp manual previously tested... The 335 Automatic was a BMW press car that was pumping 19 more RWHP than another 335i) makes you wonder?

most mags times have the car at 13.6 to 13.4 and trapping 104 to 106. Based on the increase power and tq.. it sound about right. Anytime you increases 5mph in trap speed, you have made some real power.

With the right driver and better STREET tires it will dip in high 12's and maybe 110 trap. That is still 4 to 6 MPH trap speed away from a stock E55, let alone a pulley E55 or stage 1.

I have no doubt this car will be in the mid 12's or faster... but not just a simple ECU tune and exhaust. It will take alot more mods (downpipe, intake, and bigger turbos) to really make it compete with the big boys.

I'm still planning to buy a coupe... to replace on my C32.

your thoughts?

I can't find anything better than 91 octane anywhere in L.A.

I followed your posts on this car and it's clear you're a fan but I see the 335i as too much of a sideways step from the C32. Seeing as you have a FI beast (55k) I would be tempted to spend my money on something high revving and genuinely sporting such as a 996 GT3 or an 06 M3 CS.

330s are a little TOO stealthy for my taste. I'd much rather have an M3 . . . but I don't like the negative image associated with M3 drivers. I guess I'm not buying a 3 series any time soon!

not quite..

you need to be at Stage 2 (pullies, ecu, headers, filters, plugs & wires) to trap those speeds.

very few C32 have trap that high.. Vadim is probably the only one I know.

I have ODPS and with ECU I'm only gaining another 15 RWHP.

Stage 1 C32 probably around 320 to 330RWHP.

Stage 2 C32 probably around 340 to 350RWHP.

I agree with the notion that a 335i is a lateral move. But I have an itch for a near 50/50 weight distribution car with 6spd and 2 turbos. They coupe looks very appealing, more than the sedan. Besides, the free service plan for BMW is what MB has fail to continue.

The way I figure.. I'll wait to pick one up after than M3's arrive and some current 335i coupe owners jump out.

I'll most likely get until the end of this year or early next year and will do the Vishnu ECU tune only. I don't want to have nightmares with my dealer about service. Just ProCede ECU will put a 335 at around 310+RWHP (about the same as my ODPS C32.

My budget is not quite to the level of 996 GT3 or an 06 M3 CS.

The real reason I posted this thread... is the fact I have this one cousin of mine with an IS350.

He just bought his IS 1 year ago and already planning to buy a 335 Sedan. His thought was the following: "With a Chip and exhuast, I will be easily mid 12's "

I read alot of forums (Acurazine, Beamerfest, E90, ClubLexus) and most of these guys get too caught up in 0 to 60 times.

Few understand the 1/4 ETA times (60', RT)

and very few understand Trap speed. The true measure of a car making power.

The funny thing: I sold him that the 335i was going to better than his IS and now he wants to buy one. Luckily he doesn't want a coupe or else I would be forced to buy something else.

Myself and Vomit both trapped in the 112mph at Carlsbad raceway two years ago with just ODPS and ECU and a splash of race gas to make up for the hot day.

true... you can fit bigger rims and tires on that car. With that much torque, 9 to 9.5 is a must on rears.

535 is going to be a true luxury sleeper.

I must say.. that is impressive.

But I have seen a few videos of stage 1 c32's or SLK and they don't trap that high.

Here is a good example for you.
http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...458ae866a2.htm

its trapped 110 and its lighter than a C32.

here are 2 c32's

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVUs_ULrizU

either the track was very good or the race gas really helped you.

112 is just not normal for a stage 1 only car. Stage 1 (add headers and tuning) or in your case add Race gas and 112 should be consistent.

But in my original post, I make it clear that 91 octane is very important in Cali.

Give the car a little more time and it should make a few mure ponies...Shiv has not messed with the vanos(valve timing)and is still working on it.

with race gas and a full TBE the car will come real close to 400 whp after that its pretty much done since the turbos will be maxed out.

I went in for 2 test drives and im holding out a little longer.I almost picked up a nice c32 to hold me over but this guy backed out from buying my current car.

The new 335i is an amazing car no question. But I just wonder if it will end up like the old S4 which kept blowing turbos once chipped and driven hard. I know its a good tuning company but will this car last as a road race car if you wanted to take it to a track event every month?

What is the intercoole like on these cars? I know that is a weak spot for many cars and I would hate to see the BMW shutting down at the track due to high intake temps after an ecu flash. I had a 330i at the track for a day a while back and it shut down due to high temps in the motor and trans after one ot two sessions -- and that car had NO turbos!

But back to that 335ci... its the best looking bmw made right now. That car shows that Mr. Bangle is not totally insane.

My brother and cousin have stage 2 s4s and my cuz is on his 2nd set of turbos.I dont think the 335 will suffer the same problems because for one the s4s stock boost is 8 ish and after a tune they go to 18-19 psi

On the 335 the stock boost is 8 ish but after a tune they only raise it 2-3 psi and tapper boost by red line.

big difference in 3 psi gain with a chip than 10+ psi with the s4s

Time will tell though and that is the reason why Shiv hasnt upped the boost more up top end so he donst blow up turbos everywhere.

I think these first tunes are very tame untill we start getting more miles on them.

I honestly think the stock turbos can hold 13-15 psi to redline

Plus the clutches are all ready going bad on stock cars with only a few thousand miles. An aftermarket clutch will be a must.

those are really good times for a bone stock auto...Congrates on the ride

I guess Shiv said he trapped 112 mph on at sea levle and that run was going backwards on the track...93 oct guys should be able to trap that with no problems.

Do you plan on chipping your wife's car?

that was one of my main concers when I test drove it.The clutch is WAY to soft and you can barely tell its there. Its the softest clutch I have ever felt.

You need to baby this clutch because the car makes so much torque down low.

Its either that or the people dont know how to drive.I can smoke the clutch in my M3 in 2 min if I drive it like a moron, but its been holding up for the last 60k miles with hard driving but knowing what Im doing at the same time.I have never smelt the clutch the way I drive and one time I let my friend drive it and he asked me if he could double clutch it and I told him sure(knowing he has a 500+whp supra) and that kid smoked the crap out of my cluctch for like 3 seconds....I yelled at him for like 5 min lol

I can see these clutches smoking up real bad because they feel so soft and people wont be able to modulate it right.

wont be long before people yank out the clutch delay valve lol. That is what makes it so soft.

very nice time.. for the auto.

I'm probably going to stay with an auto if I purchase the 335i since it would be my daily driver.

Don't do that - it'll ruin a lot of your fun! What's traffic anyway, but an excuse to exercise your clutch leg?

Exactly - I would see no point in trading a C32 for a 335i other than wanting a manual transmission.
