Mines in the garage and I'm driving a quattro Audi TT. I've got winter tires for the benz but never mounted them. This weather beats the tar out of a car.

As a consequence people just aren't well practiced at driving in snow/ice conditions, and nobody bothers with winter tyres. The cost of a second set of wheels/tyres just doesn't stack up for the amount of use most people would get from the car.
We had snowfall on Thursday and Friday - typically 6 inches - and the whole country was gridlocked. Took me 5 hours to travel 11 miles, and got completely stuck on a relatively slight incline close to home.
It shocked me how little traction there was albeit on all season tyres. ESP on or off, W or S, I just couldn't get it to move. Do the tyres make night and day difference?
Several RWD cars got stuck - XJ8s, 350zs, and the like - but 3-series went up no problem (probably less powerful engines though). Any idea why the 3-series is like a mountain goat in comparison, apart from lower power output?
BMW - is perfectly balanced 50/50 weight distribution comparing to MB close to 70/30. Less weight in rear = less traction.
MB is no worse than 60/40. Even a FWD car is not 70/30!
See what BMW drivers are saying about winter driving

I would say my beast is very well behaved in Blizzaks when I used C-mode today.
this morning the parking lot at my work was empty and filled w/ unplowed snow so i was making donuts all morning for fun.
