Very impressed!!!

Well as some of you may know already here in the Chicagoland area we had a blizzard/snow storm and I want to say that I am very impressed with the handling of the C32 with snow tires on a day like this. I have Hancook snowtires and they work great. As long as you drive accordingly the tires do a great job of keeping you straight and in traction. Praise to this car that works well with snow tires. One would not expect that such a car even with ESP would handle to good in snow in piles like this.

I sign my name w/ blood. Great handling in snow/ice or whatever this winter can do to us. And I run on all season tires. ESP is just amazing!

Mine did great. My C32 has Blizzaks. With ESP, it is much more stable than my Jeep with 4x4 and Blizzaks. I still take the Jeep out when there is a blizzard though.

Ditto.

Although I have Pirelli Nero M/S tires in case I really need to drive in snow. I've driven in light snow with no problems. Just make sure the tranny is set to "W" and not "S".

Mines in the garage and I'm driving a quattro Audi TT. I've got winter tires for the benz but never mounted them. This weather beats the tar out of a car.

In the UK, we have snow roughly as often as we have ice ages, and then it only lasts hours. Not always like that but snow is quite rare these days. Come to think of it cold weather is quite rare these days.

As a consequence people just aren't well practiced at driving in snow/ice conditions, and nobody bothers with winter tyres. The cost of a second set of wheels/tyres just doesn't stack up for the amount of use most people would get from the car.

We had snowfall on Thursday and Friday - typically 6 inches - and the whole country was gridlocked. Took me 5 hours to travel 11 miles, and got completely stuck on a relatively slight incline close to home.

It shocked me how little traction there was albeit on all season tyres. ESP on or off, W or S, I just couldn't get it to move. Do the tyres make night and day difference?

Several RWD cars got stuck - XJ8s, 350zs, and the like - but 3-series went up no problem (probably less powerful engines though). Any idea why the 3-series is like a mountain goat in comparison, apart from lower power output?

Tires DO MAKE difference. Good tire is a must. I'm driving on all-seasons but I picked them carefully.
BMW - is perfectly balanced 50/50 weight distribution comparing to MB close to 70/30. Less weight in rear = less traction.

Thanks. I'd always assumed it would be split between the 50-somethings but not as biased as that!!

MB is no worse than 60/40. Even a FWD car is not 70/30!

See what BMW drivers are saying about winter driving

I would say my beast is very well behaved in Blizzaks when I used C-mode today.

Will not argue. I got those numbers from thread few weeks or so ago.
But still weight distribution makes big difference.

I have heard how people criticized anything other then the premium snow tires in other threads but I have to say that my choice was given to me by a so called tire pro at Discount tires and the Hancook I use work extremely well when one drives carefully with the ESP.
