C32 resale, present, future, ....past.

my did this car tank or what?

i thought i made out ok in 2003 buying a 24 month old starmarked no options vehicle with 5,000 miles for $41k.

half hearted attempts to get into a e55 about a yr ago yielded trade in quotes ~ $22-24k. with 40K miles. I guess private party was $28K at the time....so even tho well bought the car suffered. i couldn't do the e55 it did not make sense financially.

I see lots of new owners on the board.....what are you guys paying and with how many miles, condition etc.

the depreciation was one reason that pushed me keep car and juice it up a bit. i've got 1-2 yrs left......and hope to get $18-20K on trade at that time.

what are your guesstimates on c32 market 1 -2 yrs from now? (<100K mile cars).

C32 pricing

On 12/30/06 paid $30,500 for an 03 C32 with 48K, very clean, new tires, otherwise bone stock. This also happens to be the "true value" pricing on Edmunds. I separately purchased a 4 year/unlimited mileage warranty for $2,800.

I think one major factor is that interest rates stink right now for used cars. 8.75% is the norm, for 36 months. If you finance $27k (30k car with 10% down) at this rate, you're talking about paying $850/month on a car that's known to be expensive to repair with no warranty. You can lease a new 335i or IS350 for substantially less than that, and get a full 4-year warranty. MB dealers offer lower rates on CPO cars but you're going to pay a lot more and you're still only covered for 1 year. Sadly, these factors are even making me think twice, and I've wanted a C32 for awhile now.

2002 C32 ///AMG
Just bought a 2002 C32 with only 32,000 miles for $22,000, I think that's a steal for this car, it's amazing, even has the 6 disc CD changer, and a built in radar detector in dash. I agree with the interest rates thing, that's why I only financed $13,500 over 5 years, they're so high !!

Great deal indeed. I'd call that a steal. I've seen high mileage "seasoned" cars in that price range but nothing with low mileage.

If I could find something like that, I'd probably jump on it. But in the high 20s, low 30s, it's tough to justify. I could put it on the home equity line I suppose but I'd rather save that money for an emergency, or to upgrade the house (an appreciable asset unlike a car). And if I tap myself and get hit with a $2k repair bill that wouldn't be pleasant. When you get into that price range, leasing makes more and more sense.

I purchased mine around 03/06 for $31k OTD. It has 28k miles at the time and every option offered that year. I then purchased an aftermarket platinum warranty for an additional $2,800 for 4 years w/no deduct.
I thought it was a steal at the time, and compaired to all others I was looking at at the time, it was. Now in just a year the bottom seems to have fallen out on these cars. Unfortunate.

Yeah, kelly blue book trade in on these cars seems to be much lower than M3's of the same miles / year. Even though the C32 is more expensive brand new. Oh well, I got mine cheap and am enjoying it a lot :-)

2002 C230 Coupe
I contemplated selling or trading the '02 C230 Coupe for a '02 C32 AMG locally in SoCal. The dealer is having a hard time moving the car and has dropped the price a few times already. $21,999 is what they're asking for a car with 63K miles and less-desireable paint and not many options (Desert Silver, no COMAND, 6 disk CD changer, missing spare tire.)

But like everyone says, interest rates have gone up, and with the need for an extended warranty ($3K), and tax/license (about $2K), it doesn't make sense to take a beating on my C230 Coupe w/72K miles and extended warranty (trade in value around $10K) to get into a c32 (as much as I want to) for $27K and owe $17K difference. Especially since I put about 8K miles a year on my car. (first time in my life.) For the money, I'd probably be better off leasing an E-class or BMW 3-series at this point and take advantage of the 10K mile super low lease deals.)

Now had I started off with the C32 to begin with, I'd consider the costs "sunk" and just enjoy the car. Especially knowing that the car was very fast in 2002, and fast enough today to have little competition.

a c32 is prob not worthy of pulling equity from the house. but maybe to offset the price 50%??
