And in terms of reliability, to be honest I know 4 people who drive Nissans and they might be better than Mercedes, but they're not great, at least not as good as Toyota and Honda.
Anyway, you don't need to defend you reason to us (or me), as long as your happy. Good luck with your new car, but just excuse us, I never heard someone say they're happy after going from a 911 Turbo to a C32 to an Altima. It seems the cheaper the car, the happier. Hmm... I always thought it was the inverse.

). Aside from the obvious difference, the Honda was depreciation and reliability king. I owned it for 6 years and many miles:- oil change twice a year at Costco
- two sets of tires
- one set of brakes
- one transmission fluid change
- never refused to start, even on the coldest days (Ottawa, Canada)
- it was fully loaded and every single button and gadget operated flawlessly at all times
That was all I spent on it. The car still ran perfect when I traded it in for more money than I ever hoped to get from a private sale. That is worth something.
Hope that after addressing the common C32 issues I will have a somewhat similar sail.

Lots of good points here. Affordability was *definitely* a factor. I would have liked to lease a 335i, but I drive about 25k miles a year, and leasing wouldn't have been wise. Also, having had prior experience with 1st model year forced-induction performance cars (cough, C32), I didn't really feel comfortable buying one. A C230... meh, pass. G35 is nice, but the ride is uncomfortable and the gas mileage blows. For what I wanted in a car at this point, the Altima was the best candidate.
I had a Maxima a few years back, and it was reliable, but it had zero character, and torque-steer completely ruined the car. I'm not sure if they've addressed it in current generations, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Also, my girlfriend hated it because it was boring, and I think the Alt is a better-looking car. And the progression wasn't 911 -> C32 -> Altima, the Porsche I had a number of years ago.
One other reason I wanted to get out of expensive cars is because I'm still relatively young, and apparently developed an 'image'. I'm not sure why professionals still judge folks by the badge on their cars, but the execs at my office apparently had more than one conversation about my compensation/age ratio, and "who does this guy think he is..." etc...
