do you need the mb phonr in order to have the bluetooth work or is there a module that plugs into the car without having the mb phone?

Yeah I'm wondering about this too. I've got an 02 C32 and I've seen the plug in the center armrest console, is that where it plugs in? Also I would assume that you need voice control also to get this to work? (even though I know theres a microphone in there when I've talked in the past via Teleaid).

So basically, can you use the bluetooth puck to connect a bluetooth phone and have handsfree--even if you didn't have the phone installed before or voice control?

1FAST makes it sound like it does. I still have no idea if this "puck" is a MB part or can be bought at any stereo shop?

sorry guys, didn't mean to leave you hanging...

1. you have to have the phone system already in the vehicle

2. the "puck" replaces the V60 phone in the cradle

i don't think that it is as good as the Argos system, as every once in a while, the other person i am calling won't be able to hear me...but overall, i like it and it is half the price of the Argos system...

let me know if you have any other questions...

Yeah, can anybody tell us what Argos is? I Googled it and looks like a bunch of British stuff. Is that the name of the manufacturer? The brand? Where in the US can we get info from (Argos dealer)?

Also try the Parrot Bluetooth system, I've always had good results. It needs to be professionally installed though.

I'm an authorized parrot dealer and for what they are,i don't like the install process and their products are a bit on the high profile side.

Update

Update:::

For original poster. I just purchased the puck today. The latest model part #B67876131

I can confirm that it works with phones other than what's MB considers approved.

I have an Android phone. Samsung Galaxy S II, it's actually not even sold in the US yet. I bought an unlocked phone and put in my AT&T sim card. It's definitely the latest greatest phone and it paired and worked flawlessly.

To the poster above:
I've always had good results with the Parrot. The install is a pain in the rear, but I've always had it professionally installed and it worked with every phone I've ever owned dating back to the Windows Mobile days. I swap phones every 6months to a year.

Anyway the bluetooth puck works great. Just make sure you have the connection in your arm rest (the smaller arm rest) to ensure your car is prewired and ready for the puck.
