My damn key is stuck in ignition!!

Y'all:
I'm sitting here stranded because the friggin' key is stuck in the ignition, wont start the car, and the key wont come out either!
Everything electrical seems to be fine. (e.g. power seats, dash, etc.). The key turns to the last position to the right but wont start the car.
When I turn the ignition all the way to the left, the key wont come out. I had spare batteries for the key at work so I changed them. No luck!

Anyone got any quick suggestions? I'd hate to leave the car with the key in it and get a ride home to get my other key!
Thanks!

Might sound stupid but it's a starter...... Is the car Manual or Automatic? If it's automatic...make sure it's in Parking position.

C32 AMG - in Pewter
I suspect the problem is that your car's CPU/controller does not recognize that the stick is in Park and as a result does not allow you to start the engine nor it allows you to pull the key out. Move you stick back and forth a few times, try in Neutral as well.

CHAMPION!!!
I moved the stick back and forth and on the 4th try there was a click and hey presto! That's pretty weird since the 'P' LED was lit up prior to shifting it
Thanks a lot gkstar!

Nah - pretty even parking lot here at the VA. Why? - does an uneven parking surface do this sometimes?

Not that I know of. I was trying to think of why it wouldn't have gone into park.
