What to use for a 2din surround on C32

What to use for a 2din surround on C32

I just installed the new 2-din DVD head unit from Alpine in an 03 and am trying to figure out what to use as a surround for the 1/4"-1/2" gap between the stereo and the dash kit. My installer wants it to look real good so he can post the pictures to advertise the new head unit. He is willing to do what ever (within reason) for free so he can use the pics. He tried to order the metal from AMG to do an exact match but that was apparently $497 for a piece big enough to do a custom surround. He is not that benevolent

. Any ideas would be great, pics would be better. I will post pics when it is complete. Thanks

Here's my setup. Don't copy it. It cost a LOT more than $497 to pull off.

I can respect copy right infringement, but was it completely custom or did you find a company that had a frame and had it carbon fiber'd? Beautiful job either way!

Totally custom. I tried having several pros fabricate plates, but they all came out average at best. This took a many attempts and a handful of different pros to create.

Any way that you could host the templates that were used to make it? I imagine they were done in CAD or something like that.

Nope, no drawings. All the trim pieces for these cars are have really tight tolerances. If they are out of those, they will fit, but just don't fit like factory. If I was able to get the factory templates, sure, that would be a start. I originally thought that I'd make a CAD drawing, but even after molding the stock pieces resulted in parts that didn't fit perfectly, I said screw the drawing. It took a LOT of trial pieces to make one that is perfect. I have casually been working on this project since November 06.

I am VERY happy with the end results. I tried various carbon fiber kits and carbon fiber services. They were above average quality, but I wanted something German factory quality. I think this is better than factory quality.

I can make more, but they are not cheap. I have one more in production for a friend, but it is already sold. They are a complete interior trim kit.
