Anyone Running on Regular Gas?
91 is all we can get in california, but on the east coast 91 is definitely not "premium" fuel.

California has 91 gas because we put a small amount of ethanol in our gas to reduce emissions.
Yes modern cars can reduce and advance timing to compensate for lower and higher octane gas. Putting lower grade gas was only meant as a tempory solution in situations where there is no higher grade gas available.
Think about it, you can survive on cup o noodles for the rest of your life, but its not really good for you and it'll probably cut your life shorter.
Higher octane gas will only help you if you have a high compression engine such as FI or NA with high compression pistons. Most of the lower end c models will not benefit from higher octane gas.
Hence the reason diesel is more expensive then premium gas in the states because our gas prices are closer to market value.
Also one of the reason why diesel is so successful in Europe and hybrids are more successful in the States.

As for the east coast - I've seen some Sunoco stations where "premium" is 91, and "Ultra" is 93. I remember when "Ultra" was 94...

i think people think there some giant conspiracy with the automakers and big oil to make you spend more money on gas.
When its probably the opposite, the price of gas has really pressed the automakers with maybe the exception of honda, hyundai and mini. Even now with the price of gas where it is, has completely killed any momentum GM and Ford had to becoming profitable again.
