Paint the lower bumper valence black????

Has anyone ever painted the rear lower bumper valance (indented area that surrounds the exhaust tips) a flat black or charcoal color? I was looking at another car that had this area blacked out, and it looked pretty good. It makes the back of the car look less bulky.

I did this with the awful Microsoft Paint freeware. Thoughts?

Another thought. Maybe cover the area with a well-trimmed, ribbed, rubber mat, with the ribs running front-to-back. It could look a bit "diffuser-like."

Don't quit your day job.

It's been discussed in the regular w203 forums:

Yeah, I kind of lost control around the exhaust tips!

I'm thinking basic black ribbed shelf lining rubber (tool shelf) would look really nice.

Paint it! I personally thinks it looks awesome and sportier. I intend to paint my future C230 the same way when I get one in a few months. This is something that has actually been on my mind a few weeks ago after I realized there was a cutout indent on some of the W203 model's rear bumper.

Paint it flat or semi-gloss black. Won't be hard to do yourself. Get some 3M flexible pinstripe tape and go around the perimeter of the cutout. And then get some wider tape to cover the areas not to be painted. I've done this on my previous silver cars...from my 98 Mustang GT to my current car, an 01 Z06. Or you can take it to a auto paint shop...shouldn't be much for the job.

Talking Looks Great

My silver slk32 came with the black paint lower rear. And it looked great. You should do it!

If you are not of the effect. Go to walmart, get some black temporary 4 oz spray paint and see the effect. It will come off in a few days so no worry or photoshop to death.
