Phone vs. MY06 C55

Does anyone know how I can tell if my MY06 C55 has been pre-wired for phone? I have Teleaid although I'm not using it.

Just curious because I'm looking to buy parts from oempartsdirect and I have three choices:

Core kit, Q-6-82-0965, list $965.00, your cost $791.30
Completer kit. Q-6-82-0907, list $468, your cost $383.76
Bluetooth adaptor, 6-7-87-5878, list $420, your cost $344.40

Just out of curiousity what makes you think it's been prewired. Is there something that I can look for to be sure? Also do I just need the completer kit and the bluetooth adapter for my 2006 C55.

I believe every c55 is prewired for bluetooth system.. see if you have any wire coming through your armrest..

to be honest, don't get the bluetooth system.. it's not really worth it.. I'm not sure if you have the navi for your car.. if you don't just get a portable navi with bluetooth feature.

all benz are pre-wired, to make the phone work with through MB they will just put a Phone modal in the trunk and plug in the Fiber optic wire and the other wire in the trunk and ur phone will be working.

or u can get an argos unit and do the install ur self. not very hard. because the car is already pre-wired for the phone.

well, #1 argos still doesn't have a fiber optic unit for 05+, and #2, you will need the unit and the bluetooth module for OEM.

Well I thought that 2006 on up some are pre-wired some are not. When I open my armrest there is nothing in there. I have COMAND so I'd like to get bluetooth to use the integrated controls.

So what recommendations do you all have on the pieces I should buy?

All MBs are not prewired. It would be very rare for any C. My '06 is not, and the dealer quoted over $1,000 to wire to the point where I could buy a cradle or bluetooth puck.

Mine is pre-wired for phone and do not have TeleAid.

If you have TeleAid, it is automatically pre-wired.

It is option 387 on the build sheet.

Lots of misinformation here. In the US, Teleaid hardware is standard. But "wiring" for the phone is not. If you don't have a wire/connector in your console, you don't have the wiring.

The job involves adding an antenna switch (the phone will use the same antenna as Teleaid currently does -- again, it's there whether you've activated the service or not), a dual-band amplifier (called a linear compensator) because Teleaid works on a different frequency band, a control module, some wiring, a cradle and resetting the MOST ring. Here is a sample Technical Bulletin, although it might not be exactly the same for an '06.

http://phdwebsite.powerpulse.cc/Phon...0C%20Sedan.pdf

Again, very few C55's came with this from the factory. I even had to have this stuff retrofit on my '06 S65. That's even more involved because of the voice control, which is not part of the W203 setup.

By the way, if it's still not clear, the way to tell is look in the console. If the small shelf is just a shelf, the car is not "pre-wired." If it is, you'll see a cradle. The difference is obvious, and is well-illustrated in the bulletin I linked.

"Cradle" is a source of confusion here. The part that we're talking about here comes in the completer kit. Its actually the multi-handset interface, but is sometimes called the cradle -- as in the bulletin. The reason that's a confusing term is that its role is to accept the actual phone cradle, or optionally the Bluetooth adaptor if you prefer. So the cradle that's installed as part of the pre-wiring (core kit + completer kit per the bulletin) gets you the point where you can buy a real cradle or Bluetooth adaptor to match your phone. Got it?

As you see, it's not cheap. If you read the bulletin, you'll see it's a fair amount of work to install the kits. If you're not familiar with fiber and modifying wiring harnesses, you might be better off leaving the install to the dealer. In any case, unless you have access to the Star Diag, you'll have to let the dealer version code it after the kits are installed.

Another reason to let the dealer install the kits is there are lots of things to go wrong. After mine was installed in the S65, it had to go back because the linear compensator (amplifier) was bad. On the other hand, installing the phone-specific cradle or Bluetooth adaptor is just a matter of insert-and-click.

Sunil said my VIN showed no pre-wiring. Cost to install it would be 1400 bucks. :::Sigh:::

Last Fall I installed the phone kit in my '06 C55, and while it was tedious and time-consuming, it was not difficult and did not require any special tools. I paid about $1,000 (which was a discount) for the kit itself. I also bought the Bluetooth module ($350 at the time), which I highly recommend. The phone and system worked fine after the install, and if you know what you're doing and follow the instructions it isn't hard, and there really isn't much that can go wrong.

FWIW, at the time that I bought my kit, my parts guy told me that there were only few kits left for the C-class and that there wouldn't be any more available once those were gone.

Bluetooth connectivity

My dealer quoted the parts you mentioned as follows for prices much different from yours:
BQ6820965 - $110.00
BQ6820964 - $160.00
BQ67875878 - $121.00

Much different but the caveat is that they were uncertain if and which cars required which pieces and what the option code 387 provided...
