General Modications

Hey everyone I am considering the purchase of a C55 in the near future(feel like treating myself). I was sold on the 335i coupe but availability just isn't there but the E46 M3 is also an option.

Just got an E 550 in the family and instantly fell in love. So now Torque is my best friend and I have grown fond of the three pointed star. I currently have a BMW 3 sedan with mods(gotthe mod bug bad) and after over 10k invested I have found myself bored and want a new canvas to paint.

I am looking to this forum for some help in getting an idea of what I can do with this car if I purchase is. Of course the standard wheels(First Choice BBS LM, Second Choice a set of DPE Wheels), coils hood emblem delete seem to be popular. Which suspension sets ups are most popular amongst C AMG's.

In terms of performance, what are the typical mods done for these cars. Also I found this video on Youtube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=DrPkO5-bNvg
I was wondering if anyone knows what was done to that car to make is sound so...Maniacle. I like that idea. Anyways thanks in advance for your help and I hope to learn a lot from the forum.

If you want to mod a C55 for performance there really isn't a lot you can do besides headers and software. You can add a supercharger, then you will have a monster!!

You might want to check out an 2004 C32. You can probably find one under warranty with low miles. It's will be cheaper to mod a C32 to get more power vs. a C55, but the potential of the C55 is obviously greater, but more expensive.

BTW, I just picked up a 335i. It's a great car, fast and comfy. I just don't feel as exclusive when driving it. There is just something about that little AMG badge..

You should ask yourself what exactly you want to modify the suspension for? Handling, or looks, or both.

With the C55, the stock suspension setup is pretty stiff already, not as stiff as an E46 M3, but stiffer than a stock C32 and any non-AMG C-class or non-M 3 series. It offers very good handling for the streets and acceptable handling on a track for most drivers, unless you're a hardcore track junkie. If you want to modify the suspension for LOOKS (ie lowering the car), then I have no comment.

Ya I saw an earlier post of you mentioning you picked one up. My budget constraints would leave me leasing one and the amount of miles I drive per day(70) would exceed be exceeded in the first 2 years of a 3 year lease.

The C55 is a phenomenal car without extreme modification. Just curious how much would a supercharger kit be for the car? My old roomat has a CLK 430 and it was going to be 12k for his so should I expect a similar price? This is not in the cards but curious.

Also what is the most popular exhaust choice for this car? Eisenmann, Superspint, etc?

Well I have not driven the car yet, will be doing that this afternoon, but my current set up on my car is Eibach Pro Kit with Koni Yellow Adjustables. It is a great street setup although a bit stiff but I don't mind.

Goals for Suspension: Reduce Body Roll, improve handling, and also for aesthetic reasons to decrease the lovely gap betwen the Tire and the Fender with a more aggressive stance.

Coils are probably the be all end all answer to my equation but just wondering what is popular amongst AMG owners when suspension mods are done.

Stock is popular - just remove the resonator if you want more sound. You're not going to do much to the exhaust system, other than headers, to get better flow than it has stock.

I would think your estimate for a s/c on the C55 is about right after all is said and done.

I did the resonator removal on my current car as well. Great mod and it only cost me $40. In regards to the video I posted does that car have headers? Which companies are there to choose from?

Oh and please tell me Renntech is not the only option @ $4500. For that amount of money the car better see 80 whp in my mind!

Once again thanks for all the help

It's not as common as other tuner cars so expect to pay double (or so) for stuff like headers, pulleys, and other go-fast mods. RENNTech and Kleemann are the main ones. There are also ASP pulleys/mods, but I've seen mixed reviews. Also Evosport has some stuff, but it's not that much more for RENNTech and Kleemann so why not splurge?

I gasped when I saw the price for Supersprint Headers for the M3. That number(RE: Renntech Headers) almost made me faint. I guess it is the equivalent to a set of new Rims and Tires but I just rather have rims and tires. For the money I would spend on the car and those mods I could afford a pre-owned E55. Thanks for the information.

That video is of my car. I've changed some things since I posted that so the exhaust sound is actually more focused and not as loud now. I'll put up a new video of it when I get back in town in 2 weeks.
