Impression after resonator removal
After hearing the C32 without the resonator I also decide to do the same.
Here are my impressions: The exhaust note is not terribly loud, actually it's on the quite side. which is ok. It sounds nice.
Here are two things that is bothering me. Without the resonator it seem that I've lost great deal of throttle response, something that is very important to me. That would cause the car to feel totally different. In some ocassion, it would seem like the car would stall on me while idling.
Second, feel the lost of power on the low end. The car feel it's lurking a lot more than before.
I am going to drive it for few more days to see if computer would adjust to it or I think I might change it back to the stock form.
Any of you have the resonator removed please give me some feedback with your experience.
Thanks
Charlie

This doesn't surprise me, these cars are in armony with back pressure, you remove something and increase the exaust flow (which you would think it is a good thing) and the engine doesn't have enough back pressure therefore it can't produce the same hp and the computer doesn't know what to do with so much exaust flow. You would need a special programming for your ECU to accept the extra flow and gain performance out of your mod. Sorry, but the same thing happened to me on a Chevy car.

i don't know about C32 AMG, but when i change my muffler on my car for the first time it did feel sluggish. After 2 days the problem goes away. I think the computer need to get used to it

In honor of the "new" Age of AMG Drivers thread that was resurrected from the netherregions of MBWorld, I wanted to bring back to life the oldest resonator thread I could find.
Carry on...

I did it, thought it sounded crass, whole idea seemed rather pointless, and I slapped my resonator back on. But, obviously, others think it's the bomb, so it's your call . . .

I was going through what you are saying on my C55. For a while, I was a little disappointed that I had lost some torque. I don't know if I got used to it or if it went away, but the car feels fine (er, I think). I have noticed that flooring it in first gear doesn't create much wheel spin anymore, but that could be because I was comparing it to when I first got the car (which I drove at night; it was at least 10 degrees cooler). When I did my wheel spin test recently it was middle of the day. I guess I don't really know what to think...other than the fact that the cats and resonator aren't going back on lol.
It is my guess though, that if you lost some down low (torque) you probably got a little extra up top (HP) due to less restriction in the exhaust.

Ok, I hate to sound like a nerd, but you sparked my curiosity in my own vehicle. Since it is night time, I just went for a quick drive. Went to a dead stop, turned off TC, and gunned it. I burned the poop out of my tires. I know this isn't very accurate as far as finding if my car lost power or not, but I'd say that just from "feel," I think the computer adjusted and the car is back to normal.
Oh, one more thing. When the guy did my exhaust, he crimped a little bit of the new 3" pipe to retain some of the back pressure, or so he says. When I let off of the engine at a high RPM I get a back pressure pop sometimes, but that is it.

When I met up with my friend at the drag strip he had his C32 resonators removed, and I could barely notice the difference in sound. I think secondary catalytic's and resonator combo is needed to get it more noticeably louder.

When I removed my resonator on both my C32 and C55 I initially felt what you had described also. Call it a change in throttle response, torque, or whatever you want, but something was different. I swear at times it still feels like I'm missing that sharpness I had right off the line when I press the accelerator. Several runs on a mustang dyno with my C55 indicate I'm right in line with where I should be and there is certainly no deficiency in the torque department (316lb-ft). So, I really don't know what to say. I guess a person can always get it put back on if it really matters to you. Throttle response and low end torgue are also very important to me. This is why I'm becoming a bit more hesitant to touch anything else related to my exhaust (IE: cats, headers). Perhaps this fear is unwarranted . I do know, however, if you make an exhaust too free flowing you can lose torque....

removed my resonator a few years back... I am one of those that think it's da bomb.
the resonator is pretty much a straight pipe. look through it. it's just got some holes on the side and fiberglass packed to absorb some sound. should be little/no difference in back pressure.
maybe you have an exhaust leak? maybe you are just afraid to step on it because it sounds louder?

I took the resonator and secondary cats off and fitted a link pipe , on start up it burbles which sounds good , on acceleration it roars but a deep roar , then crusing it sounds like normal . a very good mod to do

+1 I have a resonator and secondary cats removed and after my pulley and tune my car did get a lot louder at WOT...I think it has to do with more power, the saying goes, the more you eat the more you $h!t!

Are most shops willing to do this(2nd cat delete?) w/o question or did you guys have to shop around? I want to have this done before I have Jerry Dyno Tune my car at the end of this month. Right now I just have res delete but I want to get my 2nd cats removed eventually, so I am guessing it would be better for when Jerry does my dyno tune to have this already done, right?
