Torque convertor replaced ... but not for glycol

So I am finally getting my car back after it has been at Mercedes for over 6 week. I took it in and asked them to check for glycol contamination initially as first thing in the morning, when the car was cold, the torque convertor would slip slightly for the first few starts at traffic lights ....... so they did a glycol test and it came up negative. They ended up pulling the box, and have replaced the torque convertor due to what they called "metal contamination". They have also swapped out the radiator just to be sure ........ althought this has taken a long while, it has all been done onder warranty, so the final outcome is not to bad I guess when you consider it is getting close to a 10K repair bill........

Pleased you have had that problem squared away under warranty.

I’ve replaced (other marque) transmissions due to “metal contamination.” It’s often the case that when the torque converter fails, it kills the transmission at the same time. Of course, the converse is also true.

Kindly let us know how it feels/shifts once you've accumulated some more kilometers.

Did MB elaborate any more on the "metal contamination" part? Why it happens in the first place etc?

Had the same thing done on my 2002 C32.. It only took a little over a week to get the car back though! I had about 91k miles on the clock. metal contamination.. rebuilt tranny and new torque converter.. also under warranty thank god cause it was over 5k repair for sure.

So are there any preventative measures for this type of problem - such as changing the transmission fluid regularly etc??

Glad to hear you got it fixed under warranty even though it took a while it is well worth it. Did you have the classic jerking sensation?

I still have the infamous jerking sensation when starting to move both in W and S. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times they say it is normal. They did a Glycol Test and it came negative. I have around 91k on mine. My service guy is telling me he would back me up if anything were to happen after the warranty which is at 100K. I have no other symptoms except the jerking sensation. I do have the Valeo radiator. Any ideas on what I should do?

I had a small jerk, but the main problem was the "clutch slipping" sensation when the car was cold .... maybee tell him you have that
