C55 Values Dropping Like a Rock??
All, I'm new to forum so thank you. Everyone's commentary has been much appreciated by me as I was doing my research on an 05 C55. However, I am torn about what the retail value is on well maintained, 05 c55 w 20k miles w NAV in Pewter. New car warranty runs out in 11/08. Comes w maint plus too.
The Galves value (from last week's issue) for my car is $33k and "market-ready" value is ~$34.8K. I just bot the car in a pvt transaction for $37K, or about a 10% premium. Does anyone think I am crazy? It's going to need a new rear tire soon and the previous owner had the B service done earlier this year. Almost all the CPO 05 C55 were close to 40k and frankly, there weren't many pvt sellers of them. Anyone buy a similar c55 lower recently Where should this trade today? I know the c63 is coming out soon but it's also going to be close to $65k after aa the doc fees and taxes.
I was able to get the VMI from a local MB dealer. It's been in the shop a bunch but for little issues (sw updates, new sunroof motor, new rear truck latch, etc...) but there no major mechanical issues.

if so, for the love of god, enjoy your driving and ownership experience!
I didn't buy my C32 so I could worry about how quickly the value would drop when the C55 (and soon C63) entered the market - I bought it for the combination of performance, comfort, convenience, quality, and features. The car 'feels' right to me and I love driving it.
Why worry about the resale values? Cars never hold their value - if you wanted an investment you should have been in the market

That's why I NEVER buy new - between high repair costs and parts. The loss on these cars is great. I got a steal on mine...

2008 m5
i bought a new c55 just recently... sitting on the lot for a LONG time. maybe i could have done even better, but the amount off list was pretty ridiculous. still, i'm looking at a lot of depreciation. but a lot of fun, too.

Also, M3's are bad comparisons since they hold their value so well. Every car goes through a rapid depreciation period, M3's are doing it now too actually. Guys with low mileage loaded 05's are scraping $40k.
Point is, everything is depreciating right now, and its not going to keep going on like this forever.

The point is the W203's (including the C32) will be taking a step down in price as the new C rolls out. And the high end specialty models such as the C55's are going to fair worse than the more manistream models particularly in light of their fuel mileage. Happens with every model. Look at the price of a 2001 E55.

Right, but the biggest depreciation hit is at purchase and in that intermediate period when a "new" car becomes a "used" car. C32's will experience less of a hit than C55's. The big hit already came, the C63 hit will be reasonable.

VMI are the Vehicle Master Inquiries which is a complete repair history for your MB that MB dealers use to log repairs. It's against the law for MB to give them out anybody else than the current owner but if you ask nicely some salespeople will hook you up.
Just drive the c55 on the hwy for extended period of time this w/e. The thing rocks. The M3s are great cars but they do not match the "PULL" these cars have. Not a bad formula for Mercedes...take the smallest car you make and then stuff the largest engine you can find under its hood! Love it. In 3 years I'll sap into a used c63 and then it'll be a party all over again.

2002 C32, 2011 VW GTI
That's a fact. The C32 and C55 are indeed depreciating rather quickly. Why? Who knows? I think some of it is obviously the new C. Also, the fact that the AMG tuned W203s don't look much different than the newest W203 C230s probably doesn't help either. And there's the issue of branding. The BMW M3 has always been called the BMW M3 in all four of its generations and the name has history behind it. There's been five C-Class AMGs over the past decade, all with different names. Let's face it, unless you're a gearhead, you probably don't know what our cars are.
I think the recent proliferation of relatively inexpensive high performance cars like the WRX STi and Lancer Evo has also been a factor. But who cares? I intend to keep mine and drive it for at least the next 5 years so I'm not too concerned. And don't forget, '60s muscle cars lost almost all their value too after the oil embargo but look what ultimately happened. The way I look at it, it's a great time to buy.

2005 C55 with Nav
interesting thread
I got my 05 C55 13 months ago for $45.5K -- fully loaded with 4.5K miles on it -- car was bought new for $64K in 2005
I understand the new C63 will slghtly lower values but that car fully loaded will be at least $70-$80K which will as a default bring speed demons back to us -- everyone agree?

I scored a similar deal, paid $47,000 for my 2005 C55 with 10K miles, fully loaded with every option but phone, 20 months ago in January of 2006. Guy paid $64,000.00 for mine when new and traded it in on a 2005-6 E55.
I agree, strong interest in the C55 will continue for at least 2 years after the C63 is launched.
