Xenon Predicament

I found an amazing deal on a factory set of xenons in Dallas. The guy is going to let the pair go for $425. Apparently this guy only supplies to shops is not able to ship unless I was a shop. The other thing is that the guy doesn't use paypal so I figured I would take a trip to dallas and pay and inspect the headlights personally.

The problem I am having is that I want to be able to check that the headlights are going to work. Now I've been reading numerous threads that say that you must have the xenon setting present in your vehicle in order for the lights to work. Currently I have the halogen headlights and I was wondering if it was possible to put the setting to xenon while I have the halogen headlights? From what I was reading on the forum, you can't have the xenon setting present for the halogen lights to work.

I figured if I have the xenon setting present I would be able to plug up the xenon headlights and check if they work, but I don't think I'm going to be able to install the lights while I'm there. I may be driving there at night so I would like my halogen lights to work.

What would every one suggest I do? Should I be able to have the halogen lights work with the xenon light setting on? Is there another way to see if the xenon lights work? What should I look out for when I go pick up the lights?

Oh, and if some of the fellow Houston member could point me towards some dealer or individual that can set my xenon setting, I would really appreciate it. I just purchased a xenon kit for my car before I found these headlights and hopefully it will arrive soon. If that happens I may just install them and have the xenon setting set. Then I can drive over there with the setting set and I would be able to check if the lights work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My car came w/ factory bi-x's, so I'm not the best reference - but from everything I've gathered, the "having your xenons coded by a dealer prior to them working" is a post-install step. Good luck though, $425 is a ridiculously good price... roughly a grand cheaper than the second cheapest price I've seen.

That's why I'm willing to drive to dallas to go pick up the headlights. I'm willing to save 1k.

stop. take a deep breath.....release.

now go to Dallas and make your deal. drive back to Houston and seek the
service and counsel of Sunil @ motorwerks.com. he can help you install the
lights *and* version code.

you're fortunate to be in Houston....Sunil's home base.

I picked up the xenons today and I got them for $425 for both of them. On of the tabs is broken on one of the lights, but I'm sure I'll find a way to fix it. I'm going to attempt to install them tomorrow. When I was plugging the lights in, I noticed that I was missing a plug that goes to the xenons for the turn signal and high beams. The low beam plug fit in perfectly. I'm hoping that I will find my answer once I take out the other ones.

Yeah, I got the bi-xenons. I was looking on craigslist and this guy was selling the driver side for $185 and I asked him if he could get the other side. He quoted me $425 if I would drive to pick it up. So I did and he was telling me how he knows a lot of the owners from the junkyards in dallas and he can get me what ever parts I need. Not sure how true this is, but I'm going to see if he can get me comand and the rear spoiler. I'm sure he can get me a hell of a deal.

I was talking to you last week and you told me about going out to the track friday, I think. I'm definitely going to try to make it. I have to work around 10 so I'll have to leave early. I think my car may be running weak though, on my way to dallas, I pulled up along side a mustang gt and he beat the crap out of me. I think my inercooler pump may be dying on me. Just pm me what time yall plan on going and I'll definitely try to make it.

I'm going to be at school all day to day. So once I'm done with class, I plan on trying to install the lights in the parking garage at my school, considering that it's indoors and well lit.

Well, I was able to install the lights, but I encountered a problem. The projector housing on the driver side headlight seems loose. The light does not adjust and seems higher than the other one. Is there some thing that I should look for or is the head light broken?

There is a repair kit you can get at the dealer for a few dollars to fix the broken tab, and firm up the adjuster. Both are very common problems.

by the way..

if you don't get the code (which I recommend)

you need to do the following at night.

open your door

turn on your headlights and let them stay on without inserting the key or turning on the engine.

wait about a minute (this is the embarrasing part)

turn the car on and hope they stay on. Most of the time if you repeat this procedure it will work.

I drove the car a few months like that until I had STEVE configure the xenon code for $50.

My dealer would not do it. But you may find others that might.

I bought my set from ebay 2 years ago for $1200 brand new from Europe. One of the best mods I have done.

If and when I trade that car, they will come off and be sold.

I think I read a previous post of yours, that's exactly what I've been doing. Thanks for your advice
