2006 Mercedes C55 AMG
2006 C55 and air filters - Cabin Charcoal etc

Hi everyone. My car is a 2006 and has 23K on the clock. I'd like to do some preventative maintenance and replace my filters. I was thinking about replacing all of my filters at 30K. Anyone state that would be bad?

Also, I noticed in my owners manual they speak about a charcoal filter filter however it only applies to the Canada model. Anyone use this in a US car and does it help or have any adverse affects?

Thanks!!

Sean

There are a couple of different HVAC filters in the C32/C55. This link on pages 7&8 shows their location.

The interior filters are 203 830 21 18. ~$100 for the pair. The standard dust filter is 203 830 01 18. Carbon impregnated is 203 830 09 18. They are interchangeable, although the good one is ~$10 more.

Either buy Green, K&N or BMC air filters and the engine hvac filter use a dealer I guess as for the Charcoal I don't think we use those in the USA. You can change filters as you desire...I say if you go aftermarket engine airbox filters I recommend changing the engine ones every 3-4k miles I have noticed good enough air robbing dirt at 3-4k miles.

I was wondering about this, I thought there is only one interior filter which sits right on top of the battery? Are there more than one location for the interior filters?

I think that the C55 may be different regarding the interior filter. I looked for an interior filter but didn't find one.

You can remove the charcoal filters if you have them, they are strictly for emissions. We started having them in the W211 starting model year 2007 in the E63/CLS63, etc.......

Some people have experienced up to +18 whp when they removed them and others have experienced only +4 whp. So they probably give anywhere from 4 to 18 whp, I would say +11 whp is a good "average" gain. However, these gains are strictly on the 63 engine. You may experience only half that on the 55 NA engine

Well I picked up a couple air filters today. OUCH. I'll never buy them at the dealer again!!

203 830 09 18 - Combination $43.40
112 094 06 04 - Filtereleme $58.00

I hope those are the right numbers. However on the box for the 203 830 09 18 the number of the filter in the box was a 203 830 01 18. On the outside of the box the 01 was scratched out and the 09 was written with a sharpie however the box was MB sealed with the stickers on both sides.

Maybe a part number change?

I think it's the cabin filter. Not the engine intake filters:

203 830 09 18 - Combination $43.40

Anyone have a suggestion on where to buy filters other than the dealer and OEM Parts direct?

Well I changed my filters tonight and boy was it dirty!!! I was looking through the maintenance booklet and it says to replace them every 60K miles??? That seems CRAZY. I went for a drive and I could tell a tremendous difference in throttle response etc. Glad I did it.
