Brake performance

What do you guys think of the C32's brake performance? For some reason I don't feel confident when braking w/ this car. Maybe it's because of the different setup or sensitivity level between cars, but I feel that my old Boxster brakes much better; in a sense, sharper and more accurate. What are the size of C32's brakes F/R? Any info on Brembo or AP kits for us?

The brakes look good and thats is about it. I hate that MB came up short on such a good car.

I think AMG did good with stock C32 brakes. Fronts are 13.6'' with 4-piston Brembo caliper, rears are 12'' with a single piston caliper. On the street they are probably as much as you can use. On the track they just need more bite and more rotor to handle the heat.

We are working on 14'' front upgrade with 8-piston Brembo caliper to handle the track, along with rear caliper upgrade.

If you feel that your pedal is somewhat soft, I would recommend re-bedding your pads. Find a strech of the road, by your house, where you can make four to five 60-0 mph hard stops. You should smell your brakes by the last run. Drive the car home gently and park it overnight without using parking brake. Next morning you will notice the difference.

what Vadim said.

C32's front caliper is made by Brembo, and it is enough for daily usage.

You are not use to it because you drive a Porsche with better braking feel. I had a 00 328Ci before the 32 and the 328's brake feels better too.

Hi all,

the c 32 brakes are very good. Only the porsche 911 4S (996 model) the 911 turbo (same brakes like the 4S) and the GT 2 have better brakes from the factory. German break tests showed that all the AMG brakes are equal to Porsche 911 carrera brakes. And Prosche makes the best brakes you can get. Only the boxster has "low quality" brakes (if you test it with the 911). Here in germany the boxster is not a real porsche... (sorry). Just a car for ladies to drive for shopping. Same for the SLK, the Z3 and the Audi TT.

I'm glad to hear that C32 has good brakes. It's surprising to know that it's amonst the top. The Boxster was the only Porsche that I could afford at the time when I bought my car. I was not "well established" yet.

Ian, when you mentioned that the quality of brakes on Box is worse, did you mean that it is smaller in size? They are all from Brembos, despite it's being a Box or 911 right?

One more thing Ian, in terms of the 3 top German auto makers: MB, BMW, and AUDI, has the ranking (by people, not sales) of the status of these companies changed? Is MB always on top, whereas Audi the 3rd? How far is Audi away from catching up to BMW? (I am anti-BMW, and pro-MB-Audi) Also, with regarding to the new BMW designs, 7series and Z4, what is the public reaction toward these cars (in your country that is)?

The brakes are quite good for a stock setup, I think what you are feeling is poor pedal feel and sensitivity. I've driven Boxsters and 911's, I know them very well. Everything feels more connected, like an extension of your senses in a Porsche.

Vadim, thanks for the tip. I will have to try that one.

The brake pedal on Mercedes is definitely weaker (or classier depending who you talk to) than most other cars. Upgrading brakes will not change the pedal feel, only the stopping speed. Even with my 14" Brembo's, the pedal still feels too easy. But man does my car stop!

No, porsche brakes are selfmade by porsche. The best brakes you can buy are from the 996 Porsche GT 2 (Keramik-Bremsen). It´s no option from porsche when you order a car to get it with brembo brakes. And it would be very stupid to change the brakes cause like i told you: porsche makes the best brakes you can get. On every brake test in germany the reference car ist the GT 2 or the Turbo F1.

One more thing Ian, in terms of the 3 top German auto makers: MB, BMW, and AUDI, has the ranking (by people, not sales) of the status of these companies changed? Is MB always on top, whereas Audi the 3rd? How far is Audi away from catching up to BMW? Hm... Mercedes Benz ist still the number one cause mercedes makes very exclusive cars with high quality. Since the new E-Class W211 all the quality probs seem to be cleared.
BMW ist ranked on the second place and Audi on the third. BMW has design problems and the system of the new 7´er is very bad. But the engines and the quality of the cars is still high. Their problem is that only stupid *******s are drivin their cars in germany. Turkish people. The big deal with BMW is that you get a fast car with much HP and good quality for a "low price". Mercedes-Benz is 4 % more expensive than BMW (in germany).
Audi has the problem that they are too expensive. Audi still has not the image like Mercedes or BMW. Audi will never be the No.1 but they try to get the second place with BMW. BMW is 3 % more expensive than Audi. Most Audis are drivin with quattro what makes them a great winter car. Audi also has high quality but specialy the diesel engines have probs cause the system is not up to date.

In a new test the new Audi A8 wins, second was the BMW 7´er and then the modified S-Class. But they did not test the big engines (S 600). The problem with the tests is that the company which wants their car to win spends a lot of money to the test comitee. People read the tests then they go to the testwinner and make a test drive. The comany always has the newest test in the building and they can say: "hey look here! Our new audi is better then BMW and Mercedes-Benz". Thats always the same so don´t you ever trust in those carmagazine-tests.

I will never change to BMW and I will never change my star for rings. Even if you get 4 rings

PS: I hope I will get the pics of my new wheels today so I can post them!

I don't know what about other Porsches, but the Boxster brakes are made by Brembo. That's one thing I am certain about, at least here in US. I paited my Box's brake to red a few yrs back. There was a clear Brembo logo on the brake. Logo is not facing out where people can see (the Porsche logo is there); but rather inprinted on the side of the caliper.
