IPOD: Automatic Audio Selector Switch
Well I went into my dealer today to buy an Ipod holder. You know the one that's felt lined. I already have an Aux input in my car however I was told if I got the Ipod kit I would lose the Aux input. However after reading through the brochures, I noticed an item called the Automatic Audio Selector Switch. It states that you can add the Ipod kit and still have your AUX input. I asked the parts person about it and she stated that it was about $80. She also stated that it would work in my car.
I didn't buy the cable nor the Ipod kit as I'm debating whether it's the solution I want to go with however I was curious to find out if anyone has installed the AASS part?
PN: B6-782-4228
Thanks!!!

The iPod holder is a simple tray to hold the iPod - it's about $15.
Now that the iPod kit has the inline amp to solve the low sound problem, and this cable is available - the full iPod kit is definitely worth it.

My understanding is that it is not a kit, just a different cable that plugs into the iPod integration kit ECU, allowing iPod standard connection or mini-jack aux cable for non-iPods or iPods through the headphone jack.
As an add-on to the existing iPod interface, yes, if utilizing the iPod connection the iPod would be charged. If utilizing the aux jack - then no.

The AASS is just a replacement cable in lieu of the HU Harness that normally comes in the IPOD kit. However I will be returning it because it would not fit nor could I figure out how to make it work with the Aux input.
One thing I do not like about the iPod kit is that the song names do not scroll and the characters are fixed. What's up with that crap??

The automatic audio selector was developed for the ML and GL cars that have rear screens installed. I have one installed in my car but have never tried the aux jack. The ipod has to be disconnected to use the aux jack.

I took my car to a car-audio place and they were able to hook-up my Ipod to the AUX jack and keep the DMB Navigation/TV Tuner in the same AUX jack on my 02-C32 (Japanese Command.)
Maybe you should try your local car-audio shop instead of the dealer.
(I live in Korea...so I don't know what would be available in your market...but hey...they are the same cars so it should work right?)
