oil, oil and more oil

And let me add, yes you are correct they cannot void your warranty. You would be referring to the Moss-Magnusson Law,.However MBUSA will certainly put up a massive court fight and unless you have deep pockets and have the absolute need to prove a point against corporate america, you would be wasting your time. It would be smart to use the recommended oil regardless.

So are people saying that MB doesn't use Mobil1 0w40 oil now (and use 5w40) because Mobil1 doesn't make them 0w40 anymore?
or MB simply changed to 5w40 because it is the new standard and better than 0w40?
I called the dealer today, they have the Mobile1 0w40 in stock, should I go ahead with it cause my 5000km is up. thanks

0w40 mobil 1, if you must, is available on the net and i can find it at local autozone. why buy from the dealer? it's got to be pretty penny more no?

thanks AWDman, i went to the dealer simply because I was there for some parts and according to what I read on this thread, most members say their dealers changed to another formula, so I thought I had a good find in the dealership. They charge $10.50 for each bottle, and compare to the price I found for AMSoil 5w40 ($9.50), I thought it's a reasonable price. How much does retailers usually charge for Mobile1?

Dealers will rob you. Mine tried charging me $18.95 pre tax for Castrol TWS 10W-60. BMW rrp is $12.95 so I had a blazing row. BMW Beverly Hills service dept need to learn the meaning of customer service.

Hey D_Star I got 0W40 for $7.19 a liter at part source. They were running a special ..regular 8.99.. I wonder how much they go for a quart in the US.

Call me crazy, but I just ordered a case of Castrol Syntec 5W50 for my C32. It's hard as heck to find Mobil 1 0W40, Castrol Euro 0W30, and other specifically approve formulas, and given that I change my oil way before required, I think I'll survive. And I don't have a warranty anymore!

i recall some talk regarding it being a "cracked" sythenic and not made from true synthetic basestock. i didn't research this i suppose a bit of googling would yield results.

For all the new AMG engines, Mercedes is recommending Mobile 1 0W-40

Yeah. But in the end, when you're doing oil changes at 4,000 miles, I think we are all way over-thinking motor oil. I'll always use synthetic and always in the correct viscosity. But unless I intend to follow the extended interval guidelines, I doubt I'm going to suffer using a "fake" synthetic.

This is a very informative thread for the different motor oil comparisons and tests out there. And since I'm personally researching different oil brands as well, I thought to throw this one out there:
My relative living in Germany told me that most of the Mercedes Benz in Germany use Pentosin Pentosynth 5W-40.
Has anybody ever tried or even heard about this oil brand? Whether good or bad?

East to buy from Amazon too.

What engine oil do you use?
I am reluctant to ask this question as "engine oil" has always been a subject of debate. According to my service booklet that came with my C32 there are about a dozen different choices.
What brand of oil are you using? How often do you change it? What weight oil are you using?
